Top critical review
a poorly done murder mystery
July 14, 2019
I haven't finished a book I disliked this much in ages. It helped that only 86% of the file is this novel. The rest is a preview of the next one, which I am happy to ignore.
I finished reading it because the prose isn't awful and most of the characters aren't awful. But man, Georgia is a total ditz for someone who was supposed to be a police officer. (At least, I hope her leaping to wild conclusions on zero evidence is contraindicated for a cop.) All she had going for her is beauty and loyalty to her best friend. Had she been made smarter, quicker to pick up, you know, facts, this would have been good. The trust issues, her physical reactions to the men, and the murders were done well. Her dad was shallow, to me, and poorly used by the author. There isn't much justification for the murderer, which is dumb in a murder mystery. I liked who she ends up with, but he really should be pissed at her for leaping to conclusions about him.
It's just not very good.
