I found this book to be very informative! While my children aren’t old enough for video games just yet, the information in this book did give me some insight into what I can expect in the near future! I would definitely recommend this read to other parents...technology and social media are here to stay so we as parents might as well try to understand the effects they have on our children.
I’ve always wondered why my 7 year old would rather watch kids play games than actually play them! This book really put everything into perspective and gave me a different outlook on why. The Author really broke things down and helped me to understand why my children loves this so much.
I'm so happy that I came across this book, because I've seriously always wondered why kids nowadays are so obsessed about watching others play video games, especially on YouTube and Twitch...I never really understood the point until now! I LOVE books like this that come out to save the day and explain these things... super helpful! So, thank you very much for helping me to understand!
🎮Calling all parents of tech-loving kids!🎮 • Okay, that’s like everyone! 😂 Thank you @rkholliday for the free reviewer’s copy! #partner • Alone Together by R.K. Holliday breaks down some different theories as to why there is such a phenomenon amongst kids to watch others play video games. • As an educator, I was very eager to read what Holliday had to say on this generational change. Kids are spending less unstructured and unmonitored time together in person and are finding that outlet and connection online through different gaming communities. • Each chapter of the book is broken down into three sections- Way Back When, In My Day, and Now. It was interesting reading through just how much childhood has adapted through generations. Technology will forever be a part of our world. It is in our best interest to understand how kids are connecting with and utilizing it. • If you are a part of a parent group or book study, this book would be a great one to consider. It’s a quick read and is filled with great discussion points!
Alone Together is a great book to read for parents who are concerned with "screen time" or really anyone who just wonders why kids watch other people play games instead of just playing it themself. It was a very informative read and opened your mind to see from kids perspectives. In the book, the author goes back and forth through different time periods to kind of compare and contrast the types of lives children lived. It really helped you to see how the kids themself are still the same, their options of entertainment have just grown exponentially. This was a quick read, but it was filled with a lot of information. It was easy to digest, so even if you know nothing about gaming or social media, you will still understand and learn from this book. I honestly think everyone should read this book. Even if you don't have kids or any interest in gaming. It helps you understand why you, yourself are so engrossed in screens. It was a positive, eye opening read.
This is a great read for behind the scenes of video games streaming. I had no idea what goes on with online gaming. R.K. Holliday nailed it when he said that “children today are smarter than us, quicker than us, and grow up much faster than us with their exposure to the internet”. They are learning with the trends of technology and where socialization is heading in the future. . I recommend this one for anyone who’s kids spend many hours playing video games with their friends. There is a lot going on that we as parents should understand.
