Had some great features, but also had some issues I just couldn't live with
April 10, 2019
I tried this camera for about a week before I decided it just wasn't for me. I actually have 3 different in home cameras that are currently active in my home, so I know what I like and don't like. Honestly, this isn't a bad little camera overall - maybe I got a bad one - but here is what I didn't like.
-Pretty much any time I opened the app, if I hadn't formally exited out the last time I had used it, it was frozen the next time I opened it. It would say the camera stream was "loading" but it would never load. What's more I couldn't just hit "back" or refresh in any way. I had to open task manager, close the program, and reopen it - then it would load immediately. I guess I could have eventually developed the habit of exiting out, but I am pretty used to just switching apps without thinking about it. Since I use it as a baby monitor I am only opening it for about 10 seconds at a time, but frequently, so this was really annoying. I had just bought the camera and had the latest version of the app so I don't know why it did this to me.
-This is camera didn't have a complete field of vision. I didn't realize that when I was buying it because it says it has a 360 degree view. For most situations this probably doesn't matter, but I actually use this feature a lot, so it bothered me. The way I had installed it on my wall, it couldn't show me certain parts of the room. It couldn't rotate up enough (I had it screwed into the wall as opposed to sitting on a surface). I'm still not sure if there was just something wrong with my camera or if that is the design. It rotated all the way around on one plane, but not the other.
- I had a little bit of trouble with it not automatically switching between day and night mode like it was supposed to
Here is what I did like:
-SUPER easy to set-up. I loved that I didn't even have to have it hardwired to the internet for the initial setup (but they provide an Ethernet cable in case you want to take that route). I think that is becoming more common, but my older cameras couldn't do that and set-up was a pain.
-You can turn off the camera remotely via the app. This was actually my favorite feature and I wish my other cameras had it. I have to physically unplug them. I have read that it is less likely for these types of cameras to be hacked if they aren't on all the time. Also, I just prefer to have them off when not in use (I primarily use them for baby monitors).
-Good picture and sound (at first I thought the picture was bad, but then I saw the app had defaulted to SD instead of HD - Once I switched to HD it was fine)
I guess the most annoying thing was the app, which they will probably fix at some point, but I have already moved on to something else.
