This trip down memory lane with such an accomplished author was a great privilege . I can thoroughly recommend buying this book you won't be disappointed. I came across it quite by accident and did not expect such an evocative journey through her childhood in Texas which is quite unlike my own in Europe. She then qualifies as a doctor working very hard to do so her experiences within this field are excellently documented. Good reading!
Not since a Girl Named Zippy have I been so entertained by a slice of life narrative. Author Sherry Scott shares the delights of growing up in a small Texas community with a cast of characters living out lives of kindness or neglect written by an adult woman but through the experience of a child.
Interesting and well written story full of the authors memories of growing up in Paris, Texas and beyond. She has an awesome memory of her childhood escapades. Her career as a pediatrician is another whole subject which shows the depth of her love and caring for young children with serious health issues. I truly enjoyed reading both aspects of this book!
It is enchanting to live within the mind and heart of the woman in this memoir! The interweaving of a girl coming of age with the woman doctor who has poetic insight into the lives around her show warm insight and compassion for her many young patients and relatives. I could not put the book aside.
The Author’s childhood experiences and remembrances ran somewhat parallel to mine of the same era. I thoroughly enjoyed her accounts of the people who passed through her life and the reflection upon the impact they had on her. An outstanding rad!
