An infamous period of British history
December 11, 2018
A succinct and interested peek at a truly infamous and shameful period in Britain's history.
The arrogant gall of Britain to just move in on (many) countries and impose their rule is breathtaking.
Then to have the audacity to 'fine' the invaded country and demand recompense is unfathomable.
While the emphasis is on the trade in opium, the author seems to just assume that the reader already knows all about opium growing, production and effects …. information on these aspects, and the level of financial investment and return, would have been appreciated.
There is also a lack of information about the effects on the indigenous Chinese in the ongoing wars, turmoil and negotiations.
