Bad fit causes pain, had to be returned
October 24, 2017
Recently I injured my wrist by compressing the ulnar and median nerves. My doctor recommended steroids, ice, and a wrist brace. This wrist brace did NOT fit, despite the other positive reviews. Before buying, I measured my wrist at 8.5 inches around. The "L/XL" size is supposed to fit hands with a wrist circumference of up to 10 inches, so I ordered that one. Big mistake! It was too small. I actually had to double-check to make sure they didn't send the wrong size completely. To be sure, I was able to get it on, and the straps fit okay But the brace did not fit anything like the pictures on Amazon.
If you look closely at those, you see that the black neoprene parts are supposed to overlap, and the straps should come almost all the way back around to the inside of the wrist. This is not so! What happened, is the straps only barely fastened to the Velcro, leaving about two inches of the green elastic material showing. The two sides didn't even come close to overlapping. As a result, my thumb felt uncomfortable after a while, and after an hour or so, I began to realize that the hard plastic insert (the wrist support) on the inside of the brace was creating pressure near the webbing of my hand. It actually made my pain worse.
Long story short: Unless you are a child or a very tiny woman, do not buy this product. It appears to me that the manufacturers idea of "large" is simply to take the small size, and simply add longer Velcro straps to it. When, in fact, the width of the brace itself should have been increased in order so that the stiff inserts can be spaced wider apart. These hard inserts are supposed to be centered on the hand and wrist to prevent movement. Misalignment can only cause further injury. Buyer beware!
