Virtuality by HL Wegley is action packed and frightening. This is my first book by Wegley but will not be my last. The book opens with an action packed scene to grab your attention. Then we go back a bit and find out how Vince and Jess ended up in such a predicament. Vince is an author who writes riveting books until he gets to the endings. He is challenged by his editor that it is because he hasn’t had his own happy ending. I found that interesting and wanted to ask writers if this was true. Vince is given Virtuality, a technology company from his dying brother along with warnings. Jess is a childhood friend of Vince’s and a technology wizard. She had done some work for Paul at Virtuality. So she knew a little bit about what they were doing. Once Vince decides not to sell Virtuality, he and Jess are in danger. They are running for their lives as they are also trying to understand why someone is willing to kill for Virtuality. On a personal note, Jess and Vince are both dealing with unresolved issues from their high school years. Vince thinks Jess was in love with his brother. Jess thinks she is not good enough for Vince. You watch as both of them deal with these issues while they also fight the attraction they have for each other. The story line is frightening and riveting. It makes you wonder how close we are to this type of technology. I found the author’s notes at the end of the book to add even more to the story. When you realize what triggered him to write the story and the statistics of the adult industry it is scary.
Sexual content – kissing and verbal teasing Violence – people are trying to kill them, someone is abducted, and the book does not contain gratuitous violence. I found it frightening what the technology could do to people. H. L. Wegley offers readers a thriller with a very poignant point that is revealed at the end of the book. With all the gaming systems and games developed and sold all over the globe, this novel really makes the uses of them for good or evil a reality. As the novel progresses, what quickly becomes apparent is how easily people can become ensnared in a world that is evil. What is also true is the way human desires can draw them to God or others into a world all their own. Jess is woman who is brilliant in many ways with computer software and coding. Vince is a man whose brute strength covers up his tender heart. Jess and Vince have known each other for years. They can easily read the face of the other and know what is going inside their mind. What catapults them into meeting again after a 7-year separation is the death of Vince’s brother and the new position Vince has as CEO of his brother’s company. The story takes many dangerous twists, turns with deadly action and adventure! H. L. Wegley’s novel is one that many should read to begin to understand the danger to society that people aren’t even thinking about when they have kids play constantly on any hand-held device. The tale is really interesting with Jess and Vince’s relationship and personalities. What makes it a must read is the truth about the possible dangers to our future generations. The ending was outstanding and one I won’t forget anytime soon! The suspense and faith elements keep audiences turning pages until the very end. If you haven’t read any of this author’s work, start with his latest thriller that rings with truth and faith until the very last words. Here is a gift that will keep on giving for years to come. Read it and see if you don’t agree!
VIRTUALITY by H L Wegley Vince’s readers didn’t want real life they want incredible adventures. A call from Jess, it had been seven years since he had heard from her and now telling him of his brother Paul. She wanted him to come, for Paul, and a promise to talk with her. His agent calling and asking if he had ever been in love, he writes with a passion, till the end. You need to change the real life ending of your life. Paul owns the company Virtuality, which Trent is wanting. Hopefully Vince will let it go and not pick up the helm. A few muscle man, an intimidation might be needed, if it took more, he would. Last words Paul said to. Vince was don’t sell, someone has been spying . A high tech company that Vince knew nothing of, Jess did, trust her, both of you are in danger For Jess a prayer answered Vince came home, a man she loved. Yes, he needed her, and maybe he would realized how much and her love. A project of Paul’s that was US Army classified, neither had clearance to know what he had been working on, or what this meant, One thing they soon learn, was the nature of virtuality, the good and the bad of it. Seeing thru the offers, and the dangers of what was really going on. Suspenful ,tense, a love they both needed to complete their lives, and what they were to do in life.
Fantastic book! Techno Thriller with romantic comedy! Exciting read! Wow! The rock climbing scene and the Snoqualmie Falls scene were two of my favorite WOW parts...very detailed scenes, excellent research leads to action scenes that seem very realistic!! Virtual reality technology can be used for the good of society or its destruction. This book pits both sides against each other from beginning to end with realistic scenarios and high action throughout!
I've read all of his books, and every one of them is excellent, clean fiction! His books always keep you on the edge of your seat, but are also sprinkled with romance and comedy to relieve the tension and keep your interest peaked! Since the heroes and heroines are strong lead characters, his books can be enjoyed by both women and men. .
I thank Mr. Wegley for gifting me a kindle copy of this book, not contingent on a review. However, I was very happy to read it and review it!
Wegley is somewhat new to me as this is the second book I have read by him. He is a great writer and his characters are very strong and intelligent. He writes in a way that both male and female will enjoy his books........This book Virtuality has to do with virtual reality games that are sweeping the world at this time and what could happen if they become plentiful and used for corruption........The book opens with action as Vince and Jess are fleeing for their lives.....Vince has just inherited Virtuality, an innovative technology company from his dying brother. Virtuality has a contract with the U.S. Army to design a highly classified game to be used in their training. But Paul, before he died warned Vince that someone is spying on the company and under no circumstance was he to sell the company. ....But what is going on, who would want to buy the company so badly that they would kill for it?.......This book will have you holding onto your seat as the next chapter unfolds for Vince and super smart and techie Jess, also the love of his life. Can there be hope for her to return his love, that is if they can stay alive? You will definitely enjoy this nail biting suspense.
Overall this was an enjoyable romance/suspense story. The romance does use a miscommunication trope, so fair warning to those who dislike them. The explanation for the misunderstandings between the two is plausible to some extent, though I have to admit that I wasn't fully sold on it.
There were also several times where the story felt disjointed and I had to reread to see if I'd missed anything that would have clarified things for me, but I had not.
The suspense level was high enough to be exciting, but not so much that it was exhausting. And there was enough detail to know what the villains were saying/threatening without them explicitly doing so. My gratitude to the author for keeping it clean as well as lighthearted as much as possible.
Clean romance level: sweet kisses, a few positive religious references without preachiness, no undesirable language
Deb’s Dozen: Struggling author inherits brother’s company—virtual reality turns into a virtual hell.
H. L. Wegley writes extremely well-researched romantic suspense. Virtuality warns us that virtual reality portends dangers we might not realize.
Struggling author Vince van Gordon returns home because his brother Paul is dying. Paul tells Vince that Virtuality, his technology company, will be Vince’s upon Paul’s death. His last words to Vince plead, “Don’t sell Virtuality. Jess can help.”
Vince knows next to nothing about the company or technology or virtual reality. And he left home in the first place because of Jess. He believed she loved Paul instead of him, which destroyed him—his best friend loved another.
Jess never knew why Vince left—she only knew she was heartbroken at his leaving. She’s always loved him—he was her best friend! Now she knows she has to help Vince save Paul’s company.
Virtuality has taken virtual reality to lengths perhaps never anticipated when the concept originated. Now, the experience, because of technological advances, can addict a person to its use. A porn king pin, in an industry often at the forefront of new technology, hatches a scheme to take over the company.
Jess and Vince struggle to evade the killers sent by the king pin and to save the company. Along the way, they must overcome the feelings they had and acknowledge the feelings they now realize they never lost. I couldn’t put the book down. Wegley knows whereof he writes and therefore, the education I received along with the excitement kept me turning page after page. Five stars!
H. L. Wegley served in the Air Force as an Intelligence Analyst and a Weather Officer. He has worked as a research scientist and developed computing systems. Harry and his wife retired near Seattle. Wegley writes, to quote Harry, “inspirational thrillers and high-action, romantic-suspense novels.”
The author gave me a copy of Virtuality, but I was in no way obligated to write a review.
Wow, what a great book. I first became acquainted with Mr. Wegley's writing with the Chasing Freedom Series and I thought that was one of the best books I had ever read but he has just blown it out of the park with this one also. I was hooked at the very first page and it was intense until the very end. He writes all his books with such thorough knowledge and you never feel like something is just made up to fit the story. Vince and Jess kept me enthralled with their bantering and the romance that simmered throughout the book. This will keep you guessing until the very end about how they are going to get out of the situations they get themselves into. Very lovable hero and heroine. I was given this book by the Author with no requirement for a review. All views are my very own.
