Finding a new way to think about the world.
November 14, 2018
One can’t help but be caught-up and carried along, page after page,by Jonathan Marcus’ new and engrossing memoir. In prose both warm and sensitive, unpretentious and enlightening, he writes about his life in his early twenties. In the waning years of the Vietnam War, he knew he didn’t want to get swept up in a fight he didn’t believe was his. Instead, in his quest to learn a new way to think about the world and his relationship with it, he was swept up into an almost cult-like group on the same quest. It became a years long experience he could never have anticipated or imagined for himself. This story of Marcus’ times of push and pull and give and take with his fellow seekers and the group’s leader will both fascinate and intrigue you. It’s just a great story of a man, coming of age, seeking challenges that would nourish his soul.Reading it, mine was nourished as well.
