I'm a huge fan of writer JoyEllis and she comes thru again in Fire on the Fens. Arson is messy and dirty. But when murder is added to the fire it becomes gruesome. Small fires leads to bigger fires and then bodies begin to appear in these fires. Now we have arson and murder. DI Galena and her team of crack police officers need to / solve these murders l quickly before another one dies. Can they solve the mystery fast enough? And at what cost. Fast paced and a real page Turner.

What a gripping, tense, compelling story! This is the latest in the Nikki Galena/Joseph Easter series, and it is a real winner. Someone is not only setting fires in the area, but is making sure that someone dies in each one, locked in from the outside. What could be more terrifying? Knowing why can only lead them to what and who might be next. All the victims are young and appear to be unacquainted. Finding that common element is at the core of the tale. Cam Walker is the new acting Super who gives Nikki and Joseph more latitude in dealing with these crimes than expected, and he also condones the relationship between Nikki and Joseph which has now progressed beyond friendship to a romantic one. It was good to revisit the recurring characters - Niall, Yvonne, Cat, Dave etc. It seems like a reunion of characters you've loved from past books. I highly recommend this book and look forward to more....

If you're a fan of British police procedurals but haven't yet read Joy Ellis, you are missing something special. She is a master storyteller who develops characters that are complex, interesting, and who you would love to have as friends. Pathologist Rory Wilkinson is an especially appealinf character--brilliant, witty, charming. You get the picture. Di Nikki Galen and DS Joseph Easter are the main characters in the series--exceptional detectives and genuinely nice people. Although this novel will stand alone if this is where you want to start, I think you will enjoy it more if you start with book #1 and read your way through. Ellis has two other series as well. I have read both and am a huge fan of everything Ellis writes. Can't wait for the next book from this author, regardless of which series is published next!

An arsonist is at work in Nikki's town, and the severity of the fires is escalating. A man dies, locked in his caravan from the outside. Than another dies. Nikki and her team trace a motive back to events that happened over ten years ago. Slowly, piece by piece, the put together what happened on the night when six teens were pulled from a fire, and one was not. To add to the mix, a group of Luciferians is practicing in Nikki's area. Are they Satanists, or simply an unusual religion as the leader says? Everyone on the force is involved in finding the facts, about both mysteries. Joseph almost loses his life, and a friend does. The final scene captures Rudy's wedding -- done up a la 1942.

I've read all the books in this series and wish they were written faster as I cant get enough. Joy Ellis is my favorite author. This series draws you in with the on going story of Nikki and Joseph as well as their team. So well developed and likable, with crime stories beyond imagination. This book about a man torn apart looking for revenge in fire is a page turner. As always Nikki's mom Eve winds up involved with twists and turns that take you on not only a journey of revenge but history and love.

Author Joy Ellis has given us another wonderful British police procedural set in the the fens. This case involves an arsonist who is seeking revenge for an accidental death that occurred a number of years earlier.
As DI Nikki Gallena and her team race to discover the identity of the killer, more fires claim more victims.

As always, the teamwork and camaraderie between the characters is a big part of the pleasure of reading Ms. Fool's latest bok!

I've enjoyed this series. Although there are minor irritants, Joy has found a group of core characters that work. This book didn't have the sweeping vistas of the fens but we got a glimpse of the town proper. The fens, the town and the people, villains and coppers alike make for a curious adventures. Thanks Joy!

Lovely writing again from Ms. Ellis. I can’t wait for the next book to come out and see in what our heroine Ms. Galena, will be up to her neck, along with her courageous crew.
