Over the past few years, I've managed to write a few books that became Amazon Best Sellers. I learned a great deal about writing a book the hard way, and the three books Collins has put together would have helped me a great deal...and reading through this compilation still helped me with problems I wasn't totally aware of.
Getting an idea for a book: easy. Coming up with a title: semi-easy (but you'll probably keep changing it later). Hardware and software: trivial.
Actually writing the book? Ah, there's the rub...Collins addresses most of the hurdles you'll run into and gives you concrete suggestions for organizing your writing and actually getting a book finished.
You can click on Look Inside to see the table of contents of the books to see what kinds of Help await you. The third book addresses itself to writing non-fiction, but new fiction writers will find useful information there as well.
I found Bryan last year on his blog. I was a little bit sceptic at first, many people and "experts" are trying to teach people how to write and how to become authors. Bryan was different from this crowd, he is generous with his methods, and teaches with stories that are both inspiring and educational. Instead of telling me how great he is, Bryan demonstrated his expertise. So when he released his course on becoming an author, I hastily enrolled. It was one of the best investments I made. And now Bryan released this 3 part series and he sent me a review copy.
Now, to set some context, I no longer read a lot, I prefer audiobooks. But once I got started on "Become a Writer Today", I could not put my phone down. It's packed with value. The advice and prompts that Bryan gives are straightforward and easily actionable. I don't want to give too much away, but here is one of the things Bryan said that stuck with me and really helped me write better: "Insert a sensory detail into your work. Did the coffee taste bitter? Was his skin cold to touch? Did her voice sound like a cat being castrated? Were his eyes bloodshot? Did he reek of gone-off tuna? And so on."
If you want to become a better writer, get his book today! And start reading and applying his advice right now. I can guarantee that you will not regret it. It made me better.
Bryan Collins is the friend and mentor every beginning writer needs. This set of three books contains everything you need and is a great value! Book 1 is all about the prompts and I love the way they are organized into 7 categories, each focusing on a different area of writing to get you started and practicing. Book 2 gives you a ton of tips and advice on the writing process and mindset along with suggested tools you can use to help you. Book 3 contains the nitty-gritty details and steps to take to write, finish, publish and sell your work. I received a review copy of this series but have purchased other books by Bryan and he never disappoints! You get so much high quality content for the price!
From his blog posts to his books and his social media presence, Bryan Collins has continued to be a source of inspiration and motivation for writers, no matter what stage of their careers.
Putting out these three books, bundled as one set to best serve his audience - writers like you and me - in "Become A Writer Today" Bryan has given us a priceless set of tools for our toolkits - ones that we can reference over and over.
Easy to follow, without a bunch of writerly jargon, Bryan precisely gives us the tips and tools we need - with practical takeaways - to implement into any writing process. And though I did receive an advanced copy for an honest review, I purchased a hard copy so that I can mark it up and have it ready to go on my desk...
I got a review copy. Bryan's writing and tips are very conversational , easy to follow and well structured. I like his openess on the struggles he has faced as a writer. His productivity tips apply to any creative endeavour
I received a free copy of this book. Become a Writer Today was a fast and enable read but don’t let that fool you. It is full of great advice that., if used, will make writing easier and more fun. The first section of prompts was a welcome surprise. I marked several that I plan to use in my writing practice because they are so unusual. The third section which was about writing a non-fiction book can be useful even for fiction writers. Mr. Collins’ writing style is conversational and easy to follow. I highly enjoyed reading this book and will put some of his ideas to use.
