There is a learning curve, for both the roomba and the owner. My lower back issues are exacerbated by the motion of pushing a vacuum, and my sweet husband though willing, works long weeks and shouldn't have to worry about keeping the floors tidy. The roomba has made a fantastic difference for us. I use it at least twice a week and it's brought a certain peace to our household - pressure off of him, and I'm happy with a debris free floor. There are a couple of trouble spots which I try to maintain with the virtual boundaries (it came with one and I bought a second) but because there are areas of the house that require more frequent maintenance, I create barricades using broomsticks and rolled up blankets/chairs laying on their side to get a more specific job done. If I place roomba in certain rooms rather than allowing it to begin from it's base, it isn't able to find it's way back to base, but if I let it run it's course, it finds it's way back to recharge and continue. This has been a game changer in our home.....though I wish I'd bought one long ago, they've advanced over the years, which I'm sure has brought them to the point where it's a solid fit for our lifestyle. It works fine on my kilim, cowhide rug, persian carpet, around dining chairs, barstools, etc. The app is great - able to run it while I'm away as long as I make sure problem areas are blocked off, and that I've been diligent about emptying the bin.
No, it doesn't "do" baseboards or reach into some weird spaces between walls and furniture - but neither did my husband!
I HIGHLY recommend a roomba, and most especially paying up for the 960 model with phone app.
