With a name like Mr Brownstone, I pictured a Sherlock Holmes type character with a tweed suit and a bowler hat. Couldn't have been further from the actual character. James Brownstone is a bounty Hunter who is helping with some of the chaos that has followed with the gate between Oriceran and Earth starting to open. When he's not out taking care of the criminals he's living and breathing (and also eating) barbeque. Whether it's watching cooking shows, reading books on the history of barbeque, or going out to eat it, James Brownstone loves his barbeque. He lives his life ruled by KISS (keep it simple, stupid). But when he meets a teenage girl, his life starts to get complicated. Lots of action and humor I've come to expect from Michael Anderle's novels. And if you love barbeque too, Michael has included some of his fans home made recipes in the back of the book. Another great book, looking forward to the next one.

OK Michael has now gone and gotten me hooked on yet another of his story arcs. You have to be really careful around him as he turns out LOTS of very interesting stories. Some of my favorite authors turn out 1 book a year or so but Mr. Anderle seems to turn out one a week, and they are all worth reading.
The main characters in this story series are new and way different from some of his other story series, and I think they will prove to be the most interesting. However you should understand that if you start with this author, you will have literally dozens of different series that can drag you in. Just be prepared because once you start reading, it is very difficult to stop. It is, however, worth it! Enjoy.

Excellent story! The book grabs your attention immediately and doesn't let go. This is part of the "Oriceran Universe" of book series, and what a great continuation it is. I read it on KU, it was so good I bought it so it would be a permanent part of my library. James Brownstone is a BBQ fanatic as well as a bounty hunter with a strong sense of justice, his understanding of women is nil, so his relationships with Shay and Alison is a very interesting part of the book, I'm looking forward to seeing how they all continue to interact in the next books! -- and don't miss the BBQ recipes in the back after the notes!

I wasn't sure what to expect when I got this book. Well, quite frankly I enjoyed the hell out of it and I can't really put into words a reason why. Maybe it was the kick ass, but necessarily flawed protagonist. Maybe it was the undercurrent of a possible romance between the detective and the Tomb Raider. I don't know. What I do know is that this book was right up my alley and one heck of a fun read. I eagerly await a sequel or the continuation of the Granite Ghost in series form.

My first foray into the officers universe, and not only is it as good as expected but there is finally a male lead character! Don't get me wrong, I have been thrilled about Bethany Anne, Valerie, Hannah, Julianne, and all the ass kicking female lead characters, but except for TH there was a heavy estrogen thing going on in the Kurtherian Gambit universe! Now we have James Brownstone, a Jack Reacher esqe character with the immortal initials of such heroic types as Jason Bourne, James Bond, and others who are there protecting the innocent and clobbering the baddies. A worthy effort! Looking forward to reading more of JB and his crew soon#

I have not read this author before this book. I was surprised to find out in the (many, many) afterwords that the author has many Kutherian Gambit novels in publication. I have purposely avoided that universe. Maybe I should reconsider.... Excellent story, characters and action!

This was my first time reading Mr. Anderle. I was sucked into the story and read late into the night only stopping when the book ended. I then bought the rest of the books about Brownstone, Shay and preordered Alison's story. I am now a fan. One reason I am now writing this review is that I am waiting for the next book. I don't normally read urban fantasy and this book caught my eye. I like the KISS theory, but life keeps getting in the way and who doesn't like BBQ? Thanks for an entertaining series (or three).

All Mr. Broadstone wants is to keep his life simple. Keep It Simple Stupid (KISS). Unfortunately, his beloved dog, a blind girl, a field archeologist, and a well armed gang of wacko criminals fill his life with all kinds of complicated. Very well done Mr. Anderle. You've sucked me into another of your addictive series. Thank you for a wild and wonderful ride into yet another excellent adventure. 👍👏😎

While this book is set in the Oriceran Universe, it can stand alone. (although you really should grab the other series, they are excellent). I found myself truly enjoying the main character. He is a good guy deep inside, some may have to squint, tilt their heads and look really hard to see it but that's only the people foolish enough to be against him or those he holds dear. This is a fantastic introduction to Mr. Brownstone. Well done Michael Anderle.
