One Kick ass read.

One damned fine read. Spoiler alert.
This one starts eight years ago in Afghanistan. Its where a member of a team is killed in an IED explosion. One soldier stops to grieve for his brother, his friend. Then he walks away.
Eight years later Handley County Police Officer Mike Haynes walks into the Gas Stop for coffee. He's driving the brand new Dodge Charger he was issued. Its a great car and he likes it a lot. After he gets his black gold he has seven minutes to make it to roll call. He gets there with one minute to spare. Sergeant Marvin Alger isn't pleased with Mikes one minute.
After roll call Mike learns he's to be mentor to a newby named Walsh. Julie Walsh. Even with her body armor she is one beautiful woman. Mike is wondering just why Alger picked him to be a mentor when there are many of the guys who love doing it. He thinks Alger hates him.
Jimmy is Mikes best friend. He's an ex Marine from Texas and a man who was in the sand box just like Mike. Jimmy is worried about Mike. Mike who is pale and his lack of sleep is showing. Jimmy is wondering what he can do to help. PTSD is a real fact of life for anyone who chewed sand in the Middle East. Something both of them had done.
Mike had lost his wife to cancer two years earlier. Its something he will never forget. Mike was a Ranger with the 75th and Special Operations. Mike did time in the sandbox. That's also something he will never forget. Mike was one hell of a soldier and he and one other of his team mates were the only two to make it out alive. Mike uses his military training as a police officer but he always has to tone it down. As a Ranger he would have just killed the bad guys, now he has to arrest them.
Julie Walsh sees Mike as one good looking guy. A guy with a body to die for. A guy who is more than qualified to be a cop. She also knows he's ex military and that is obvious as well. She is wondering if he sees her as desirable or just a partner for now. Lust is on her mind.
Julie Walsh is hell on wheels in a fight. She knows Krav Maga and other forms of martial arts. She more than proves herself to Mike.
Outside Atlanta, Juan is making a delivery. He's part of the Hispanic cartel that delivers people and drugs. Juan will be leaving after this delivery. He has a meeting to attend with his Uncles. His Uncles are going to change the guard on their leaders. Many of them will retire and be replaced by younger men. Juan will be one of those men. His number two, Carlos, is on vacation so his number 3 Julio will be in charge. What a mistake this turns out to be.
Meanwhile in Russia a sadistic General who is now a Minister. Minister Romanovich used to deal with the Hispanics in America until they refused to get him little girls for his butchery. Romanovich decides he will send a team to America to remove the Hispanics, take over the territory and make billions. For this task he uses his nephew Vitaly. Vitaly will pick his own team get them to the US and begin the removal of the Hispanics.
So begins one hell of a good read.
This one has Mike, Julie, Jimmy, Juan, a Juan who is far more than he appears to be, the Russians who make it to the US, an attack on a Hispanic warehouse that leaves the Hispanics dead and some of their packages taken, a Hispanics who now know their enemy, a Juan who is headed back, a Julio who does one stupid thing after another, a Roberto who works for Juan who gets arrested, a shootout at a Hispanic Warehouse where Juan and his men show up, death, destruction, a Mike who recognizes Juan, a Juan with a broken leg, an attack on the SWAT team, diversions and Mike Hayes using his abilities to save who he can, take out the bad guys, survive and stay alive.
Five stars ain't enough for this one.
