Uhtred son of Uhtred is back!
The production value is even higher than Season 1 (e.g. the Lunden set).
This is some of the best historical fiction on TV.
The fight sequences are awesome and visceral.
The acting is fantastic.
You get to see Uhtred as a friggin' galley slave.
Yeah, 95% of it is completely made up. Who cares?
Bring on Season 3!

Bernard Cornwell's books are being very well treated by this production. The books are are exceptional books and these shows are not a disappointment to someone who has waited to read them all as soon as they were published. My endeavor that has spanned many years:
The Last Kingdom October 4, 2004
The Pale Horseman October 3, 2005
The Lords of the North May 22, 2006
Sword Song September 2007
The Burning Land 2009
Death of Kings September 29, 2011
The Pagan Lord 2013
The Empty Throne October 23, 2014
Warriors of the Storm October 8, 2015
The Flame Bearer October 6, 2016

Season Two is even better than the first season and I hope that they continue to produce that excellent series. Good character development, fast paced story-line, well crafted production at every level. Some changes in the plot, but done with reason and in a manner that takes nothing away from the books on which the production is based. A rare treat and a creative victory for lovers of this wonderful series....and a successful translation from the written page to the screen.

The discs come in plastic snap cases. They play fine.

The Last Kingdom (2014- ) is a great show, interesting story arc, colorful characters, and wonderful scenery. If you like The Vikings (2013- ) series you will probably like The Last Kingdom more. I like The Last Kingdom more than The Vikings for a couple of reasons. One of the reasons is the doubling of The Vikings disc prices after season three. Instead of releasing the entire fourth season in one plastic snap case they decided to split the season and release a volume one and a volume two so they could make twice as much money, like Outlander (2014- ) did when the season one discs were released. I hate that type of price gouging so I stopped buying The Vikings after season three and refused to buy Outlander. Outlander got smart and released the season two discs as a single season set instead of price gouging by splitting the season, but I’m still boycotting the show because of what they did when they released season one.

If you like getting the best bang for your buck I suggest buying something else instead of encouraging The Vikings and Outlander and other shows to price gouge.

Here are a few of the series I really enjoyed watching more than once: Band of Brothers (2001), Battlestar Galactica (2004-2009), Black Sails (2014-2017), Cowboy Bebop (1998), Downton Abbey (2010-2015), Firefly (2002), Game of Thrones (2011-2019), The IT Crowd (2006-2013), Jericho (2006-2008), Lonesome Dove (1989), Lost (2004-2010), Merlin (2008-2012), Pride and Prejudice (1995), Rome (2005-2007), Spartacus: Gods of the Arena (2011), Stargate: SG-1 (1997-2007), Stargate: Atlantis (2004-2009), Star Trek The Original Series (1966-1969) and Star Trek Voyager (1995-2001). I didn’t list any contemporary series I’m following that don’t have an end date yet, not conducive to binge watching from beginning to finish, or the hundreds of other fantasy and science fiction shows I’ve watched.

If you like reading try some of my favorite authors: Richard Adams, Palo Bacigulupi, Suzanne Collins, Abe Evergreen, Diana Gabaldon, Hugh Howey, George Martin, Brandon Sanderson, John Scalzi, and Andy Weir.

I watched season one when it was on BBC America and enjoyed it immensely and waited for season two to appear. I then found out that BBC America would not be showing it. I found it on Amazon Prime Video to download for a reasonable price. I really enjoyed the books that The Last Kingdom is based upon, and the series does the books justice. Season two continues the saga of Uthred and it did not disappoint. Although, I must say, it is an overload on hearing the word "Lord". I recommend both seasons and hope there will be a season three.

I can't wait for season 3. The story line has not missed a beat! I advise and who want to feel included in the picture, join the outrageously adoring fans. I loved it! Characters were true to form; I could've seen more of Britta - the fighter! All was excellent!

I honestly did not have particularly high hopes for this 'Season Two'. Season One was fairly well-done, I thought, and I did enjoy it, but, WOW, it was far outshone by Season Two in every way.

I've read all of Cornwell's "Uhtred" books, and I've loved them all. That said, my sympathies go out to anyone who would try to put all of that into any kind of TV "series". To say the least, it is an immense story! But in Season Two, even with some necessary 'compressions' and a few omissions, the integrity of the overall story is rock-solid, believable, and thoroughly enjoyable. I was very surprised, and thoroughly delighted!

Now, I despair at the thought that we may have to wait two long, dreadful years before there's a Season Three, but I certainly do hope there is one -- now, more than ever. I'll be eagerly awaiting it!

Honestly I'd give it about 4 1/2 or 4 3/4 stars if I could. I like it a lot. The plot line does a good+ job of capturing the audience's interest quickly, and the characters capture their affection at the same pace. This is accomplished almost as well as Vikings did, but without the Vikings series extreme "heaviness" of atmosphere, or intensity of circumstances and characters. In effect, this a lighter-hearted (in many instances) Series than the intensity of Vikings, but with the same period interest, action, and intrigue. I recommend this second season, as I do the first, and look forward to Last Kingdom Season 3!

This is an awesome series! I've read all of The Saxon Tales and they are extremely entertaining. I was so amused with Uhtred that I purchased a custom license plate with his name on it. He's been roaming the roads of southern California for years now. Credit must go to the wonderful writer of The Saxon Tales as well as many other great books. Bernard Cornwell is just as awesome as Uhtred. Thank you for sharing your great talent for writing. The TV series brings so much life to the characters. The battles are so realistic. There are violent scenes but my husband and I are impressed at how authentic they look! We look forward to many more seasons of the series.

I'm probably the only person in the US to NOT use Netflix! Season one aired on BBC1 in the US. Watched TLK and became hooked. Season two was broadcast of BBC2 (or something like that) which was not available in our FiOS package - and we have everything! I knew it would be shown on Netflix after the season was finished, but I had no real reason to subscribe to Netflix. (I already watch way too much TV) Then found this DVD in my Recommendations on Amazon...totally by accident and when I wasn't looking! Binge watched the entire season between Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. Awesome series!

Any other American that got PO'd by the BBC switch? Here's your answer....own it!
