Everyone who complains about Season 3 not being as good, are book readers who forget that the Starz series is based on the books...but do not follow the books 100%. As a fan of the books since 1992, I am very pleased and immensely thankful for the WONDERFUL job Starz has done.
Sometimes the written word does not translate well to the screen. With large books (the only kind Diana Gabaldon knows how to write!) something will have to be cut or condensed in order to film it. Do I wish that Starz had an infinite budget to film the books in more detail? Sure! But as long as it takes to film what they do film, I do not think that wish is practical in any degree.
Starz works hard to stay true to the period and the characters. I am not disappointed but I remain grateful that I have the books to flush out anything that needs more detail.
Do not miss out on Season 3 because of the few who must criticize that the series is not the books. Enjoy the series for what it is. Enjoy the books for what they are. Together you will find joy!

What can I say but BRAVO!! Outlander fans are in for a real treat! This season on DVD/Blu-ray is bursting with extras in the way of deleted scenes special presentations (like the very well done homage to Tobias Menzies, a/k/a “Frank Randall”/“Black Jack Randall”).

I have only two criticisms and one recommendation:

Criticism: viewers have to shuffle discs to watch the extras or episodes. This is annoying. If I’m watching disc 1, and the episode or extra is listed on that disc, then when I select it, I shouldn’t see the pop-up “Insert Disc 2”.

Second criticism: All five discs are stacked on top of each other in the case like hot cakes rather than in their own sections securely in the case as in the previous two seasons.

Recommendation: Executive Producer Ronald Moore said often before introducing the deleted scenes that he cut them for time, continuity or pace. The deleted scenes are so good, I think he should rerelease all three seasons with the original air check of the episodes followed by the Director’s Cut of the same episode which would include the deleted scenes for each episode; as there are scenes in this season of episodes “All Debts Paid”, “A. Malcolm”, and “First Wife” which lend themselves nicely to the Director’s Cut suggestion.

With Director/Producers, there’s always the version they have to show (for considerations of time, continuity and pace) vs. the version they want to show (for considerations of creative license). Here, I think Ronald Moore can do both, especially with Season 3.

Otherwise, watching Outlander Season 3 via blu-ray format is incredible! The battle scenes at Culloden never looked so good! I love this show! Watching it never gets old—and wait until you see the Chemistry Test audition footage between Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe! It will knock you over!!

From season 1, Ron Moore and his team have done an outstanding job bringing Jamie and Claire's love story to the screen. I think they have exceeded themselves with season 3. Sam Heughan carried the beginning of episode 1 with no dialogue and yet you felt his broken heart with each raspy breath. Caitriona Balfe is exquisite as Claire. I highly recommend this series, if you haven't watched it. Watch the TV show first, then read the books. You won't regret it!

I was so excited to receive Season 3 of Outlander. However on disc 2 there was a episode missing. The episode where Claire explains everything to her daughter and when she meets Roger.

Is this a defect with disc 2 and will it be replaced?

Maybe the best season yet in my opinion. Just finished re-reading the series and this and the next season are really my favorite time in the books other than the first book. I love Jamie and Claire of course, but when Bree and Roger and Fergus, Marsal, Lord John, and young Ian get into the act, it just becomes an even richer story. I love how Jamie and Claire's love has stood the test of time and space. Except for the scenes with Geillis, of the flashbacks of Culloden, of course, there is less gore in this series which I appreciate. The Culloden flashbacks are a discrepancy from the books of course as Jamie didn't remember anything about it until years later, but that's creative license I suppose. Easier to wrap it up now than to have to go back and film visit it later in bits and pieces I'm sure.
Most other things were pretty true to the books, although that's not required. They are separate mediums with different objectives. It's easy to let the differences become important instead of just enjoying the shows.
The series was beautifully filmed, as always, and I love the attention to details in the clothing and furnishings through the progression of time in the series. Someone worked very hard to get the details accurate.
I will be watching this Season again and again, waiting for the next one to come out.

I can’t get enough of Outlander. Jamie, Clair in over 12.5 hours of the best TV suspense drama airing. Season 3 ramps up the scenic cinematography, as though it wasn’t prefect previously. New join old characters, but you can’t miss the dynamic performance of Lotte Verbeek, reprising the role of Geillis Duncan, now wicked Mrs Abernathy. Battles, shipwreck, romance, pillow passion, action moves so fast it covers much 18th century life in a hurry.
6-Stars worthy.
Starz remains true to the essence of Diana Gabaldon’s 3rd in the novel series, “Voyager.” Don’t worry if you’re a book fan, or just a TV series fan, both forms are incredible in their own right. I’ve been a fan since the first novel was written, owning all, and now collecting all DVDs. You MUST OWN the DVDs/BR because of the extensive bonus material of scenes deleted and/or extended. I don’t think anyone could have bettered the task of adapting Outlander to TV. Season 4 nears ready to air. It’s soo-o-oh hard to wait, just like waiting for the next book installment. If it would help I ram a hot poker up one of those frequently displayed bums, but alas…
I continue to re-watch DVDs until the next is available.
And read “Drums of Autumn” preparing for Season 4.

SDH SUBTITLES for all 13 episodes and mega bonus footage.
Rated ‘mature’ teens and up.
I also recommend owning “The Outlandish Companion” Vol.1 offering book and character outlines, and hundreds of pages of other information necessary to become a fully respectable Outlander Tartan Fan.

We binged on this one. Have read all the books, and eagerly awaited this season.
Fans of the books, be aware that bringing this series to video requires some changes. We appreciate that these changes are done in cooperation with the author.
Gorgeous photography of gorgeous locations and sets.
Astounding special effects. You felt like you were sailing through that storm!
Fabulous acting by wonderful actors.
Fabulous story.
Being special feature fans, these are always greatly appreciated. Farewell to Randall--both ancient and modern. They gave him a great send-off.
Too much dead time. Ex 1: Yes, we know she was lost in the jungle. She was lost. She was lost. She was lost some more. Ex 2: How many of us don't already know what adult lovemaking between two loving and passionate people is like? They had sex. They had sex. They had some more sex. Then, they had it again. Were the writers or the other actors on vacation? All the time being lost and having sex could have been used to drive the story forward. Yawn, then fast-forward.
All things considered, we will probably watch the whole Season 3 again, maybe a few times.

Riveting and so engaging you cannot stop watching this well done adventure romance time travel all in one. Season 3 has excellent direction that puts the viewer right into the scenes and 1760s. The lead actors and new additional actors are wonderful. Each scene is so richly lit. This is probably the best series on television.
