Holy moly. What a challenge it was to find a new good handle for Gillette sensor Excel. The Gillette company it self is very wierd. I read the reviews here and it seems like there are still a lot of people who like the sensor Excel, but yet, they discontinued the best razor they made. Now promote only 3, 4 , & 5 blade fancy colorful and very expensive razor/cartrages.
I slash the hell out of my neck with those things.
I did a live chat with a Gillette rep for 5 minutes just for the hell of it, & I said ya know McDonald's comes out with new sandwiches every month. But the classics stay on the menu. I said by discontinuing the Gillette sensor, that would be like McDonald's discontinuing the quarter pounder w/ cheese, or Levi's discontinuing denim jeans.
Through heavy duty research, I found this one.
I saw some new Gillette sensor excell handles here on Amazon. And the collective reviews were by and large horrible. The new sensor excel handle made out of plastic. I looked for a day or two, couldn't find one of those at the local box stores either. Every one said it was just like the disposables that come in packs of 3. So I decided to take a chance with this one.
This Taconic Shave one is the one you want. It's amazing to me that you can get still get sensor excell cartrages almost anywhere but NOT A DECENT REPLACEMENT SENSOR EXCEL HANDLE MADE BY GILLETTE. They are gone. The Gillette rep said, "Sorry, I understand your frustration. Can I interest you in a cupon for a Gillette Fussion??"
I said that is another 5 blade contraption. You can't get close up under your nose, you can't do the back of your neck in the mirrors, and you cannot be precise with sideburns with a 5 blade machete.
This one works great, heavy duty too. if this is what you are looking for, get it & then stock up on Excel blades before Gillette discontinues those too.

Exactly what I was looking for. I CANNOT shave with those newer style 5 blade razors that are basically flat against your face. Those do not allow you to shave your sideburns/back of neck properly when needed either (and most guys need to do this between haircuts, etc. but don't...and you look sloppy - and guys that totally shave their sideburns off unless they are completely bald look silly). My original Gillette razors were finally giving out (not holding the cartridge properly). I searched for months in retail outlets for a similar replacement but no luck. It's utterly ridiculous the choices that are out there that are.....all basically the same.....but nothing similar to these with the arch at the end. And I certainly don't want nor need a razor that looks like something a monster cartoon character would use either. They're not my style even if they were functional. This razors is rather heavy - the PROPER weight (i.e. it STAYS in your hand). Even the original Gillette one's were a lil too light. Ever lose your grip and "drop" it on your face resulting in 3 gashes? This one will probably drop on the floor, not your face. Once I was convinced to try the awesome new "brick oven style" pizza joint down the street. When they handed me that box with the $25 pizza, it flipped right over my shoulder because it was so light. You get the point. Those complaining it's "slippery" obviously don't have any fingerprints or something. I'm clumsy and have no problem with this. Even though there is only the rubber grip towards the bottom, the indent/taper towards the middle allow a proper grip with your fingers. Unless it rusts or the mechanism for holding the cartridges fails I'll probably have this the rest of my life.

I use Sensor blades because the 5+ blade cartridges leave me riddled with razor bumps no matter how I prep. Factory Sensor handles, if you can find one, deteriorate quickly and don’t always hold the blade securely.

This handle packs some heft and does an excellent job holding the blade. It fits naturally in the hand and is easy to control. Unlike many of the fancy handles out there for 5+ blade cartridges, this handle does not come in two pieces with the cartridge holder coming unscrewed mid shave.

I’m a wet shaver. That means I normally use a double edge safety razor. Most of the safety razors I use are made of sturdy metal and can last a lifetime (or more).

But I have a bit of nostalgia for the Gillette Sensor since it is the razor I used when I first started shaving in the early 90’s. While you can still find cartridges for the Sensor, finding the handles are almost impossible without paying an arm and a leg for an original off EBay.

So when I ran across this razor handle by Taconic Shave, I figured I’d give it a shot. After all, it looked to be made like my favorite safety razors, with a durable metal, not some flimsy plastic and rubber composite.

After using it for the first time tonight, I can happily say that it seems to be exactly what I was looking for. It’s great looking, sturdy, and packs a real heft that you simply don’t find in today’s multi-blade cartridge razors.

The shave was as good as most of my double edge safety razors. Plus, it provided a welcome path down nostalgia lane. Thanks, Taconic Shave.

I ordered this razor handle because I started shaving with Gillette Sensor blades again. After several years of getting razor bumps and ingrown hairs from the 5 blade razors I remembered that I rarely got them with the 2 blade excel sensor blades. The only problem is that Gillette doesn't sell them in the states anymore. I found this while looking for the Sensor Excel handle and I'm glad I got it. I like the heavier weight and it makes shaving more comfortable for me.

I travel a lot for work since I'm an Airline Pilot and after one of the trips I did notice the plastic part broke off. Most likely that was from my bag being handled roughly or dropping the handle in the shower. I called up Taconic Shave's customer service line and said that I broke it on one of my trips to see if I could get the replacement plastic part. Instead they sent me out a new handle that had the updated grips. I was not expecting that and was very impressed. Great customer service. Hard to find companies with service that way, and I'll purchase from them again.

After my 20+ Art of Shaving razor decided to freeze up by the pivot area from years of gook leftover from shaving products, I had three options:

A) Buy a replacement shaver stock handle from Gillette that was lighter than a toothpick

B) Give this one a shot

C) Stop shaving all together

I decided to go with option B was very glad I did. The counterweight of the handle gives close resemble to the sturdy AOS razor handle and gives a much more comfortable shave than using the plastic Gillette handle.

Happy shaving !!!

I can hardly believe this thing exists. It's actually better than the original handle. I've had one remaining Gillette handle and went looking for a backup/replacement, just in case. Little did I expect the replacement to become my go-to razor handle. It uses the familiar old Trac II Sensor blades, holds them securely, and pivots exactly that same as the original. But it's got a wonderful, substantial feel in my hand. In fact, I had to get used to that, and I wouldn't have minded if the handle were a half-inch shorter, but I now hold it very naturally and can get to all the tight little spots around the nose and under the chin with ease.

It was nice and heavy but the shape and finish on the handle is very hard to hold. Slips a lot in your fingers.

This is a great handle, except for the fact that it came apart on me. I loved the handle and it's weight, but the top came out of the grip part, as it appears to just be glued in or something. Now it's nothing but a paper weight. I'm disappointed.

I was looking for a razor handle to fit my Gillette Sensor blades. This is it. Good heft, feels good in the hand. It fits my chrome brush/razor stand. Brushed chrome looks good on my brush/razor stand.
