In the film, the circus is criticized for providing the masses with "fake," flashy entertainment that holds no real value. To this, the Barnum character makes a reply along the lines of, "See that joy on their faces? How can you call that fake?"

That sums up my feelings for this film and the critics' harsh reactions to it. No, it's not historically accurate and the songs sound more like pop than classic show tunes, but at the end of the showing I went to, there was an ovation and lots of smiles from the audience.

Songs, choreography and performances are memorable and charged with fantastic energy. As another reviewer said, it's a phenomenal celebration of music and humanity that makes you feel good.

I have never written a review. GET. THIS. SOUNDTRACK. I have not stopped listening to it since I prurchased it. I dream about the lyrics. It has been a spiritual experience. Sounds funny, huh? But seriously. Uplifting, empowering, moving. I haven't had something light my soul on fire in a long time quite the way this music has! LOVE IT!

Just saw the movie yesterday and couldn't get the songs out of my head. They are truly amazing. Keala Settle (plays the bearded lady character) leads a few of the songs including "This Is Me" and her voice is extraordinary. I'm a lover of musicals and the music reminded me a bit of the music from "Rent" it's passionate and powerful. I'm sure many awards will follow for this soundtrack!

Think Moulin Rouge meets Mr. Selfridge meets Glee. It ain't perfect, but it's really fun and moves like a jet engine. The songs are good and visual are great. All the nitpicking by the critics is ridiculous. This is NOT supposed to be a biography, it's about showmanship - what it means to be a master and what it means to be a spectator. Very timely. Mix in some sentimentality (to enhance the effect of a great showman's story) and there you go: The Greatest Showman.

I've NEVER seen a movie in the theater more than twice. I'm heading to #5 this weekend.
Not a single cringeworthy moment so I can take my nieces and nephews of all ages to it!
I love the music! I love the message! I LOVE the dancing and the costumes. Each time I watch it I catch a new visual aspect I missed previously. It's magical!! Best Hugh Jackman role EVER IMO!!

I went to see this movie four times because of the music and choreography, so I knew I would love this CD even before it arrived. These songs will make you want to get up and dance. I am belting out the tunes as best I can, especially "This is Me", "From Now On", and "Never Enough." Hearing "A Million Dreams" lifts my spirits as I picture PT and Charity Barnum depicted as children imagining their future lives and then living their dreams as adults. No wonder "The Greatest Showman" has been at the top of the charts! My next road trip will seem much shorter when listening to this energizing music.

I saw the movie and couldn't wait to get home to order the movie score/soundtrack! The movie was one of the best I've seen in a very long time because not only did it convey a great story about P. T. Barnum, but the music and dancing were terrific. I didn't want to leave the theater without ever hearing that wonderful music again, so I had to have the CD. I play it all the time now!

Loved the film and all the music. However, has anyone else noticed a very dynamic volume swing from one song to the next on this CD? Still, this does not change my enjoyment of the CD. I just have to keep the remote control in my hand to raise or lower the volume for just about every song. Also, the mixing of Hugh Jackman at the beginning of song #1 is way,way too soft. His voice is also a bit deep. Chorus and instruments start very loud but his singing is very low. So much so, I had to raise the volume considerably to hear him. Anyone else notice this?

Contemporary tone to a period musical -- excellent and exciting!

The songwriters, originally from musical theatre, composed a score which supports the storyline and characterizations very well. The songs in sequence seem to trace his rise to becoming the most prominent impresario of his time. A variety of well-written songs - some inspirational, some suggesting critical moments in the characters's lives, others simply celebrating the joy of performing and laced with the strong showmanship which characterized his shows. It's hard not to feel the sentiments and emotions elicited by each song. Strong vocals, excellent orchestrations, an excellent selection of songs, all contribute to a very well-produced album!

Only element missing -- see the movie to complete the full appreciation of the musical score!
