A small book that can help you to slow down and enjoy life...even as the dreariness of winter seems to drag on.

Being new to the idea of living a Hygge, or Danish lifestyle, I found this little 47 page book to be perfect. The author, Olivia Telford, breaks down the concept of Hygge into simple terms for even us "seniors" who are thought to be set in our ways to understand. It is not expensive to change one's lifestyle from fast-paced to slow-down mode, provided one wants to change. In fact, many of the ideas presented have been a part of my life for years. I just didn't know it. I'll let Olivia explain it:
"When it comes down to it, hygge is a feeling generated by a particular surrounding that is based solely on the interpreter of the situation. What one person finds comforting, another will find annoying and even bothersome. What one person finds idiotic, another might find funny, and what one person finds beautiful another might find ugly. Hygge has just as much diversity as the people implementing the lifestyle, and that is the beauty of the concept: rules and regulations do not apply."
In a word, it's personal. As for myself, my idea of hygge is sitting in an overstuffed chair in the evening, listening to smooth jazz, sipping a glass of red wine, and not worrying about what may or may not happen tomorrow. As I said above, I'm new to hygge, but already I like it. 4 stars
