Awesome pressure cooker! Poor slow cooker...
July 28, 2017
I previously had a Fagor multi-cooker that I liked and used most days of the week. I bought that one only because it was the least expensive slow cooker with a delay function that I could find at the time but quickly fell in love with pressure cooking and the ability to saute in my slow cooker. Unfortunately, my previous Fagor cooker died recently due to misuse by a family member. I decided to look around at other options as there are so many more models today compared to when I bought my Fagor. I needed a model with a delay function and saute function as I used those all the time on my previous model. Based the few things that I wasn't a huge fan of with my previous cooker I was interested in trying a model with a stainless insert and a glass lid for slow cooking. I ended up picking this Cosori and I am very happy with it. The stainless steel insert is easy to clean. There are six levels of pressure cooking that are easy to select and see what is selected. It reaches cooking pressure much more quickly than my previous cooker. The saute function on this model is excellent and browns onions and garlic and such very closely. The only thing I have found that isn't perfect about this model is that there is only one mode of slow cooking and it is equivalent to a crock-pot style slow cooker "high" mode, there is no slow cooker "low" mode.
The cookbook included with this model is a bit slim with only a handful of recipes; however there are many more recipes on their website and anyone can go to the websites of all the various manufacturer of these types of cookers and find additional recipes. Buying good slow cooker and pressure cooker cookbooks have helped me broaden the variety of meals that I make with my cooker. Personally I have had great experiences with Lorna Sass pressure cooking cook book and America's test kitchen slow cooking cookbooks to help me use this cooker to its fullest.
UPDATE: After using this for 6 months I am very happy with the pressure cooking mode on this but I hate the slow cooker. There is only one setting and it is too hot and I have had several dishes get burnt and I can't use any slow cooker recipes from anywhere other than the cosori website. The pressure cooking "settings" are silly and I just feel like i wast time trying to get to the settings I use as you can set any time and any pressure with every single setting. There could just be "pressure, saute, slow cook, and yogurt" and this would be so much easier to use! My old Fagor wasn't quite as versatile for pressure cooking but was a solid pressure cooker and a solid slow cooker. This is an awesome pressure cooker and a poor slow cooker. Very disappointed now that is it winter and I want to make some of my favorite slow cooker recipes and they just aren't coming out right at all.
I still love the stainless cooking insert, glass lid and the steamer insert.
