Nature's Sleep 10" Gel Memory Foam Mattress, King

Nature's Sleep 10" King Size Mattress purchased on Amazon July 11th, 2017; delivered July 14th, 2017 and placed in service July 15th, 2017.

Background/Mindset:
Mattress was purchased as a replacement for a 10" Tempur-pedic king sized mattress that is approximately 6 yrs old, which my wife and both LOVED for the first 4-5 yrs or so. At the time of purchase it was the second most "firm" mattress offered by Tempur-pedic. Slowly within the last year to 18 months we both began to experience significant and worsening lower back, hip and shoulder pains upon awaking from the "divots" that had formed in the mattress, and knew it was time for a new mattress.

I think it fair to offer that my wife and are both in our mid 50's and larger people, I at 6'2" around 255 pounds and she (to her chagrin if she knew I was sharing it) at 5'7" and around the same 255'ish weight. We have been terribly frustrated over the years with several mattress purchases as none lasted as long as we both anticipated (warranty period too much to ask?) and we have not always been as heavy as we are currently. Point in fact, the Tempur-pedic being replaced was made significantly less expensive than it's (around) $2000.00 list price by the local retail outlet honoring a warranty claim on the preceding mattress and giving us a decent credit toward a new purchase. As consumers, we generally engage in moderately extensive research as part of major purchases and the preceding the Tempur-Pedic was also purported to be one of the higher quality rated mattresses available at the time of it's purchase.

Over time we have begun to doubt that any mattress (at least for us) will prove truly supportive for the duration of it's warranted period and frankly all the warranties are such a pain to make a claim against. We began to consider that since we are going to replace the mattress every 4, 5 or 6 years, why pay a ridiculous amount for these highly rated mattresses but instead find something decent and much more affordable, prepared to replace it when needed. Leading to the purchase of this mattress! Purchased on Amazon Prime day for $390.00 with no shipping charge.

Mattress Review:
After 3 1/2 weeks of sleeping on it every night I feel I can provide this mattress an at least initial review. I'll be the first the confess that my wife and I were both skeptical of a mattress being shipped in a box all folded up. I read numerous reviews of this and other memory foam and/or gel memory foam mattresses shipped in this manner and generally none seemed to suffer any ill effects.

I unboxed the mattress early on Saturday morning (it arrived later in the day on Friday) and allowed the mattress all day and evening to expand. In truth it seemed fully expanded to the full 10 inches within an hour or so in a room around 75 degrees. There was ZERO smell or odor detectable to either of us.

Our joint initial impression is that while this mattress is not quite as firm as the previous (very firm) mattress originally was, it is every bit as supportive. When the previous mattress was new, we both experienced those thoroughly enjoyable early morning stretches while slowly waking that reminded us of waking as youngsters. You remember the ones, where you stretch so hard that your muscles/limbs shake. Like a dog or cat frequently do. We hadn't experienced those in last year or 18 months and I'm happy to report our waking, shaking stretches are back!!

My wife had begun to experience significant shoulder pain that we attribute to the previous mattress. It took 2 or 3 days, but that pain has dramatically reduced if not completely dissipated. Lower back and hip pain has all but completely disappeared for us, and we both believe that any pain we do experience is more likely from our lack of exercise as we both work desk jobs and do not engage in enough regular workouts or physical activities.

Other than the aforementioned noted perceived slight difference in initial firmness, the only other difference we have noticed is that edge of this mattress does not seem quite as supportive as the previous Tempur-Pedic. Neither of us feel at night, while sleeping, but only when awake and sitting on the edge of the bed to dress or put on shoes. I think few would even find it noteworthy and I mention only to provide as thorough a review as possible.

My intention is to return to this review after a year or so has elapsed and provide an update, but I make no promises... :)

It's a good quality mattress. Comes nicely packaged and compressed right from Nature's Sleep in Florida. It's very firm for the first few weeks and then gets more comfortable. I believe it was advertised as medium firmness but it is very firm. I like it very much but it did take a few weeks to get used to it.

I have a vacation rental and have used natures sleep in it. The guests often mention the comfort of the bed. I used 12 inch mattresses in the regular beds this 10 inch is for a wall bed. So far so good!

This is the second Nature Sleep bed I have purchased. The first one I purchased was a Queen in 2015. We decided to upgrade to a king (finally) and I wanted to go with a brand I knew I loved. The king bed took a full day to fully come to size, but after 24 hours it was fully formed.

FIRM. Like, firm firm... the mattress is nice and well made, but I’m going to have to buy a topper for it. It’s not of medium firmness as described.

First things first: you're going to need someone to help you, even though it'll come UPS. The weight won't be the problem. It's the awkwardness of getting it into the house and out of the box. But once you get it out of the box? Just toss it onto your frame (make sure you have the right side up,) follow the simple directions to open the plastic vacuum seal, and poof. Almost literally poof. It took less than two hours for my mattress to be 100% expanded. But seriously, make sure you have it right side up. This mattress is pretty difficult to grip once expanded, and it does not have handles. But since you don't need to flip or rotate it regularly, that's certainly not a point against it.

And it's an amazing mattress, especially for the price. The memory foam is soft, but not too soft. It definitely takes some getting used to for side sleepers, and if you don't get used to it fast, then it's definitely not the mattress for you. Thankfully, it is the mattress for me. But that's an opinion thing. From a strictly objective standpoint? The cover is soft but durable, and clearly high quality material. The foam feels every bit as durable as my very expensive memory foam pillow. The gel is noticeable when compared to standard memory foam, but it definitely is not smothering. In fact, I've found it much cooler than my old conventional mattress. And unlike many other options, there was absolutely no 'outgassing' or strange smells. Mine had a faint plastic smell from the packing material that was gone within an hour, leaving only a smell like fresh laundry. And it's backed by a 10 year full replacement/10 year prorated replacement warranty. (Meaning for the first 10 years, you pay only shipping if the mattress fails.) That's a serious statement of confidence, since name-brand conventional mattress that cost three times as much or more don't even offer *half* that length.

I definitely would not hesitate to recommend this mattress to anyone.
