Our three cats don't like this food, nor the matching dry
July 23, 2018
I recently got 12 cans of this in the 5.5 oz size & a 1.8 lb size dry off Amazon for our three cats because the eldest (16 years old) was just diagnosed with diabetes & I needed to find higher protein/low carb food, which this Instinct brand is. It seems to be a great cat food...IF your cats will eat it.
After doing extensive research on high protein/fat & low carb canned & dry food choices, this Instinct Ultimate Protein Grain Free looked like it would be perfect since our cats favor chicken flavored foods. It has a good balance of more protein & fat, with low carbs.
Our snooty cats could care less. I can barely get all three cats to eat this canned food.
They'll sort of eat it immediately out of the can, but leave some in their bowls, and because of the 5.5 oz size, there's leftover, which I seal with a lid and refrigerate. After that, there's no way they'll eat the rest. So I'm slowly getting rid of it by sneaking it to them when they're really hungry (like first thing in the morning).
I'm not all that concerned if they don't like the matching dry, since I would like to get them off of that altogether anyway, and just eat canned paté....NO sauces or gravies.
Instinct brand is in good company though...our cats also snubbed Dr. Elsey's Clean Protein (canned & dry). They were reluctantly eating Purina Veterinary DM (canned & dry) & Blue Wilderness/Rocky Mountain canned & dry, but they're currently eating mostly Fancy Feast Classic pâté & Pure Balance Turkey Dry.
I might try Holistic Select next. In the meantime, Fancy Feast Classic pâté & Pure Balance dry will be fine.
