Author Michael Lynch writes superbly and knows his baseball. This is one of the best baseball books I’ve read on stats and World Series “HEROES”! A great read for staunch baseball fans everywhere. Lynch writes on this sport like he’s living it. His historical context is phenomenal and it's all because, as you can tell, his love of the game. From the likes of George Herman “Babe” Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle and Ted Williams you will be enthralled with the reading. Lynch turned out the second best baseball book in this series. The first is his “Baseball's Untold History: The People”. I’m hoping there is another book coming soon, if so, I can’t wait to see what it’s about.
Michael Lynch has another winner in the second installment of his series, “Baseball’s Untold History.” The focus of volume two is the World Series, and he’s brought to the pages a nice variety of stories that highlight more than a century of baseball’s Fall Classic. Even casual fans, or those who, heaven forbid, don’t follow baseball at all the rest of the year seem to be drawn to the annual battle for supremacy between the National and American Leagues. One of the truisms of baseball is that anything can happen in a short series: great players fail and unknowns shine. Spectacular performances like perfect games and triple plays gain added luster. Mike’s deep research and engaging writing style bring it all to life in a book that will be enjoyed by any baseball fan. Highly recommended!
Excellent book... Excellent 2nd volume.... Can't wait for the next one to come out. A nice read. Great Stories and Excellent research done by Lynch. There are moments when you just can't believe that would have happened. Players long forgotten are brought to life. I would like to know even more about certain players -- Lynch does a great job giving us the information we desire. I loved this book.
A thoroughly enjoyable book done with the usual crispness that I have come to love from Michael Lynch! Lynch has dug up some interesting tidbits, mostly unknown to even the most serious baseball fans. He has organized this journal in a most interesting way and understandable, entertaining stories. There are little know facts about the most common World Series' games and championships. Not the usual fare. Stuff you didn't know is presented in a most fascinating way. Mr. Lynch is rapidly turning into one of my favorite baseball history writers. His work is always interesting. His book on the 1919 White Sox "It Ain't So....." had the most interesting spin, what if the 1919 White Sox didn't fix the World Series. It is that type if intellectual curiosity that always makes him a fascinating read. Please buy your own copy of his take on the World Series Untold History. Enjoy this as you get ready for another great baseball season!! Thank you.
