NO MORE WAITING FOR THE HEAT STRIP TO COOL!!! This unit is worth the money - just so you don't have to wait for the seal strip to cool down. I package a huge amount of dry products for storage and will sometimes use this unit for 2-3 hours without stopping. It does the job and then some. Not one issue so far.

I came from the automatic foodsaver which was honestly way easier to use but had one major flaw, it could not seal anything wet. The reason for that was that the automatic one released the vacuum as soon as its done "sealing", fail.

Since you control the lock on this one, you can leave it under vacuum and just press seal again to get a double seal and finally seal wet foods! Yeah its slower, and a pain to use, but it works. Its also portable which is a plus.

I thought that this one would do continuous seals (no waiting), but just like the automatic version, you still have to wait 10 seconds before itll go again. Bummer.

The one thing this is quoted as being designed for, "80 consecutive seals," is what it is the worst at. The entire reason for this to exist is to be heavy duty, however in all aspects it comes short.

This system over heats, has a VERY slow suction motor compared to MUCH cheaper models from Foodsaver, and takes 2-3 times longer to seal any food item compared to the "cheap" models from Foodsaver.

Another MAJOR flaw is the locking mechanism, the first unit I tried, it failed within a week, the second unit got wobbly after two weeks. This will no doubt fail on all models, after a reasonable use time, compared to older models I have that have lasted for several years with no problems.

The reason for 2 stars, is that I love the built-in cutting feature to easily measure bags out for different food sizes, but for every other function that this provides, please do yourself a favor and skip it. If you really want to give it a shot, Amazon has a great return policy so you won't have any risk.

I love this. It's my first and hopefully my last, vacuum food sealer. It works wonderfully. I only wish I could seal liquids properly (I haven't tried but I've read that the liquid bags are not for things like soups, but "juicy" meats, etc). A lot of people have left negative reviews about it failing to vacuum and seal after X months, years, seals, etc, and thus calling it cheap, Chinese plastic junk. I can't attest to the other types of failures but if your machine stops vacuuming, specifically if it only seems to successfully do so when you hold the lid down, then your gasket(s) (the soft ooblong thing that comes out on the top and the bottom) might be damaged and/or in need of replacement. The whole machine isn't necessarily garbage or scrap. It's well made, but reasonable that some parts need replacing after time/use! It's a cheap and quick fix if you go to foodsaver's website and find the model of your vacuum sealer, and thus find the gaskets. They run about $3 gasket, I bought 2 for $6, with $3 shipping. ($9 is cheap compared to $200 of the machine) and if it came like this, or the gasket failed too soon I'm sure if you contacted the company (failing you're outside of Amazon's return window) they'd do something to help you. Either way, it's better than wasting a $200 machine.

maybe a defect? all the lights (close, seal done, vaccuum progress bar) stopped working after 20 seals (in about 3 hours of time) the very day i took out of the box.

other than that, the seal works good. i'm getting it replaced with same model, and hoping i just received a defect.

Almost perfect, but not quite. The noise is bearable at first but gets annoying after a lot of use. After an almost disastrous incident when liquid nearly went into the motor, a friend 3D-printed a slightly smaller liquid tray to insert right inside the existing one and it's extremely difficult to get liquid past both tray! We know, we tried! The only other issue is the tedious and noisy process to switch mode from open, thru storage, to seal, and back thru storage to open. I expect some mechanical failure here. Not sure why a lever on a roller cam wasn't used - I will try creating that to fix it if it fails.

I had one of the old original white ones and it died after years of good service. It would seal with major moisture in bag sealing area. i.e. if you stop a wet seal early. So i bought the FoodSaver 2-in-1 Vacuum Sealing System 4800 Series, v4840. That one would not seal even "damp" bags. Contacted Foodsaver and they said that is normal. If this was a first time purchase I would have just returned and moved on. Because I called Foodsaver to complain recommend the Big Game version. I bought this one and it works great is much smaller and with nifty handle can grab it out of cabinet with ease!

I was looking for a vacuum sealer that was simple to use and built to last. The lifetime limited warranty was one of the selling factors for me, and also the ability to keep working bag after bag. I also like the thicker width seal this machine produces. Only two controls (buttons) on this unit, vacuum and seal. The seal starts automatically when the vacuum is full, but you can start the sealing sooner for delicate items - this turns of the pump. It comes with a port and tubing for vacuum containers. This unit is lighter than the previous one I owned, and the carrying handle is a nice touch. I probably will not use the 12 volt feature, but hunters might like this.

Nice food storage solution for a good price. Used this sealer to vacuum pack several pounds of sausages and tilapia this weekend. It worked well and was quieter than I had expected. I have never used a sealer before but the sealing and vacuuming time did not seem too long to me. The FoodSaver bags are expensive but I ordered the Nutri-Lock Vacuum Sealer Bags and they work fine with this machine.

The one thing that surprised me was the machine was a little bigger than I thought. It wasn't a big deal for me but just keep that in mind.

This is my third vacuum sealer,
i bought this one because my first two worked so well and my husband wanted this Big game saver vacuum sealer. unfortunately this one has a defect that the other Big Game saver did not have. This one does not seal and he did not look at it until a few weeks ago so the return warranty is passed. So we can not return it. So Buyer beware, check out your product. I wish we had, its just that we had the other two that worked so well. I did not use it because we has no need.
