Allow me to preface with, my dog is pickier than a five-year-old at a salad bar. Getting him to eat on a schedule has always been a chore. Since switching to Natural Balance Sweet Potato & Fish Formula about 6 months ago, he has been much more enthusiastic about meal time, immediately dropping down in front of his bowl to chow down.

The importanat stuff: My dog is 80lbs and I feed him 2 cups, twice a day. The 26lb bag lasts about 4 weeks. His stomach is more sensitive than a ginger's skin in the sun... so it's reassuring that his stool finally comes out rock solid, and is much easier to pick up compared to the previous piles of dark mashed potatoes he used to leave behind in the neighbor's yard. Overall, me, him, his anal glands, and my fabric sofa are all happy we made the switch.

Pro Tip: Natural Balance has a Loyalty Program! Buy 12 Bags and Get 1 Free. Make sure that all the bags are the same size, clip the UPC codes, and grab an envelope from a retailer to redeem.

This is literally the only brand of food I can feed my dog. He has massive issues with food allergies to the point I had him on a raw food diet for almost two years. But he's a big dog & with him needing over 2lbs of meat a day and not being able to eat poultry- my food bill was crazy. Any other dog food brand- even low allergie ones or super high quality grain free etc etc- he's showing signs of allergies within the first week. But the limited ingredient stuff- he's been eating the different flavors of it for over a year now and does amazing. & he trusts it- eats it eagerly! There's nothing sadder than a dog that turns away from food because he associates eating with feeling miserable. With this food he's like a normal dog- just eats it down

We were feeding out 15 lb Dachshund 'Call of the Wild' before switching her to this, L.I.D.Fish and Sweet Potato small breed. She was having some on again, off again stomach issues, mostly resulting in soft poops and then an excess of anal glad leakage, most likely caused by not having solid bowels.
Since switching her to the LID Sweet Potato and Fish for small breeds she has been having solid poops every time and is no longer having leaks from her anal glads, which would happen while she slept, often our laps.. not awesome, so smelly, so unfortunate.
Being first time dog owners finding the right food has been tricky. Our vet said that their practice, in a trendy Brooklyn neighborhood, has notice that these popular grain free foods - Wellness, Blue Buffalo, Call of the Wild - can be too rich for some dogs. She suggest we switch to something more easily digestible and a Limited Ingredient Diet would be ideal. I believe she was right. So far our Dachshund is doing great on this food and we'll be sticking with it.

FYI - This review will look very similar to my review for the natural balance treats.

Back story on my pet: I have a Boston terrier that started having issues with his ears breaking out with bumps, getting red, and filling with gunk when he was about 1 year old. I took him to the vet and got some ear drops which cured the problem for about 2 weeks. The vet said it was possible he could have a food allergy and to start by changing his diet to see if that eliminated the problem. I was feeding him blue buffalo chicken flavored food at the time and giving him the soft chicken flavored milk bones as treats. My vet suggested switching to natural balance fish, lamb, or veal based products.

Product review: After switching my dog to the natural balance fish flavored food he has not had any more ear issues and he's now 4 years old. I think another big bonus is that his gas is significantly less smelly. The one thing I do notice is that the size of food varies from bag to bag. We're talking like slightly smaller than a penny to slightly smaller than a dime. This isn't an issue for me, but something worth noting.

Summary: The fish flavored natural balance food is excellent for my dog who may have a food allergy.

I tried this food because my dog has itching problems and it has limited ingredients in it and it was recommended by the manager at Pet Supplies Plus, who also has animals with food allergies. I buy it here only because there is a discount and its delivered.

I think it is a great food because It says on the front it is limited ingredients and the label lists the ingredients as well and there is a whole line of dry, wet and cookies all with limited ingredients so its easy to tell if this will work with your dog and you can tell more easily what is causing the allergy to weed out the culprit.

My dog loves this food. It costs more but it maintains her weight and still keeps her full and it keeps her from being itchy. I tried other foods she itched real bad and gained weight and got "love handles" and I was hardly feeding her anything and she was exercising in agility classes.

Her stool is firm and formed but dark from the sweet potatoes. Don't be alarmed by the dark color. A similar food Wellness has (white potato I think) potato and fish (salmon) It did the same for her and I was equally happy with it but her stool wasn't as dark.Wellness was sent to me by accident so I tried it just to see. When I checked the price of Wellness it was the same as this food

I like that Natural Balance has can food to give as a treat and cookies or biscuits and use this Limited Ingredient line for my dog and she maintains weight and less itching.

She has also eaten Backcountry Salmon Jerkey and loves it with no issues. Its at Petco and Pet Supplies Plus. It has limited ingredients as well.

Check ALL of the food inside the bag before feeding to your dog. MOLDY food. Inconsistent since some bags are ok and others are not. NB customer service and Amazon are aware. Both have issued refunds where appropriate.

NB checks each batch before it leaves the plant. So, that is comforting BUT somewhere between them and my house, the food gets MOLDY. So, if you feed this food, check each bag thoroughly. This has happened now and again for us so, we are moving to a different brand.

My dogs did not get sick but this is not their total diet and the dogs are large breed.

This product has saved my dog.
I know, dramatic right? No. I've spent a lot of money and time in and out of the vet in the last three years with my senior fur baby. He developed some sort of skin condition that caused the fur on his belly to fall out and he was extremely itchy. He had severe dry skin on his back and repeated ear infections. We've had him on steroids, medications for the itching, and antibiotics for most of the last three years. Finally, the vet had me try a new diet for him, thinking that he might have developed some sort of food allergy all of a sudden (uncommon in dogs his age). I had him on Blue brand dog food when this started and he stopped eating it, so I switched to pedigree... the vet knew this and suggested I try this brand and this flavor. No poultry diet. I saw results in a couple of weeks. His fur was shiny. The fur on his belly was growing back. He's not spending his days stratching himself to death. The price of this food is a little much, but it's the only thing that's giving my dog any peace, it's so worth it. If you're experiencing similar problems with your pet, I highly suggest this.

Hands down best choice I ever made was switching to this food. I used to feed my german shepherd publix premium food. For 2-3 years she always had issues, im about 6k in medical bills, vet visits, meds and endless hours of cleaning diarrhea, bloody poop and other issues my dog had. I decided to switch her to this food, immediately her poop changed form and started being solid and healthy, her fur is now silky and nice, and the only issue Ive had with her since we switched her on this food 2 years ago was a skin tag that just came up and we're removing it, i don't think the food has anything to do with that though, but 2 years of no more diarrhea, bloody poop, skin rashes, bad fur, dandruff etc... its all gone! Food affects our dogs so much its crazy.

I bought this because my dog has skin allergies. A friend said to get grain free food. This one had really good reviews. My dog started throwing up after I started giving her this food. Mixed it with her previous food to slowly transition. She has been throwing up for a week. I have her back on her previous food and called the vet for an appointment. I wish I could get a refund. This was pretty expensive. Plus the pending vet bill.

This food is not only gentle on my Yorkie Mix's stomach (he has a very sensitive stomach and gets digestive issues easily), but it has made the fur on my Manchester Terrier feel like velvet. My Yorkie Mix is almost 3 and my Manchester is almost 8 - both of their energy levels picked up after switching to this, especially my older dog. And there was absolutely no issues when we switched. Usually there are a few weeks where you have to mix the new food and the old food and the dogs still have digestive complications That didn't happen with this food. I highly recommend!
