This is a great device. Recently moved from out of state and had much material that needed to be moved to attic storage space from garage. Contracted local handyman to install and installation went good. Unless you are an experienced carpenter, do not try to frame out access hole by yourself.
So far no problems and has been a real asset to the home.
This lift was the perfect solution for a customer of mine who needed a quick, safe method of moving boxes, totes and various other items 10'-10" up into his garage/shop attic for seasonal storage. This model works up to 11'-0" so I didn't need to get the model with higher lift height range.
As an established remodeling contractor I showed a video of the Versa Lift in action and was hired on the spot to prepare a structurally sound opening and install the lift. Although it was a bit more expensive, my customer chose the wireless remote option for practicality and convenience for their anticipated use. The few questions I had after reviewing product literature on the VersaLift Systems website were answered quickly and completely during a call I made to their Customer Service number. The result was that I was fully informed of installation requirements like dimensions, clearances and electrical needs before I showed up on the job. Armed with this knowledge it was easy to impress my customer with a fast, straightforward installation. They are thrilled to show off their lift in operation to anyone who's willing to watch :-)
Being substantially built, the lift came in sturdy boxes, cardboard crates really, without damage. All components and hardware were well packed and described very well in the installation/assembly instruction manual. With an opening width requirement of over 22 1/2" some structural modifications to the roof framing were necessary. This part of the installation required knowledge beyond what typical homeowners have so consult a building professional to do any structural work if your installation needs it. The smaller VersaLift models use a narrower ceiling opening using only basic carpentry skills which wouldn't require hiring a contractor in many cases.
Just so it's clear I'm not on the VersaLift payroll here's a couple minor issues that came up during assembly :-) The only real problem faced during assembly is that one of the patented springs inside the platform 'legs' was retracted inside the leg so it couldn't be put together as it was. I'm not sure if the spring was retracted when it was packed or if it got released during unpacking or while handling parts during assembly. Regardless, it took a little fussing to pull the spring into place but wasn't really a problem. Assembling the legs to the platform was the most awkward part of the otherwise straightforward process. I might have misunderstood the process as explained in the manual or maybe VersaLift will re-think that single part of the assembly process. Overall, when compared to many 'some assembly required' products I've installed in the past I was very impressed with VersaLift as I'm sure you'll be.
If you're looking for a safe, effortless way to lift and lower all manner of things to and from an attic or similar space my experience tells me you'll be very pleased with this or any VersaLift model/product.
I bought the 32 wireless Versa Lift model for my attic. Steve at Versa Lift was very helpful in answering my questions before I selected this model. I wanted the lift to move 30 boxes of Christmas decorations and other things to and from the attic. My husband and I used to do it standing on the attic ladder together but lifting a 25 pound box up to him involved a lot of twisting and grunting and we were begging for an accident.
I hired a contractor to install the lift and I’m glad I did because it takes some skill. In addition, we ran into problems relocating water, gas and drain lines (problems others didn't have). The lift comes down in a bedroom/office walk -in closet. The closet is 5’ long and 6’4” wide. I wanted to install the lift lengthwise but, because of framing issues in my attic, I had to install it the other way taking up more closet space than I intended. I could have installed it in several other places but I was determined to have it in this closet.
One thing I didn’t count on was that the lift must be put together INSIDE the closet because it won’t fit through a standard closet door. There must also be room to work around the edges of the platform. We had to rip out the built-in shelves and closet rods on both sides of the closet to accommodate the lift construction. Afterward, we bought a bookcase and installed it on one side to replace the lost shelving. We are using the closet for office storage so we didn’t recreate a hanging wardrobe.
The lift works beautifully and it is quite stable. It has 1 inch of clearance from the molding at the top of the bookcase and it has never bumped it. You are not supposed to ride the lift but I did and it’s very secure and doesn’t swing about. I sit down in the center of the lift and I don’t start the lift until the lift is perfectly still. I understand that I’m risking death and possible amputation (according to the warnings) but seeing how well constructed the lift is, I feel safe. However, I will never show the lift to my grandson or leave the remote where he can get it.
In the attic, I installed a battery operated, motion detector light so that when the lift goes up or down, the light comes on. Everyone who has seen our lift is amazed. It has given us new freedom and made our small attic space much more useful. In fact, we had the contractor lay more plywood in the attic doubling our storage space. Because attic access is now so convenient, we used the lift to take up many things that we’d been keeping in the house and garage.
Despite the complications that were unique to my house, we'd do it again in a heartbeat. Go to the versaliftsystems.com website for many more positive reviews.
After significant research of available products, I ordered the Versa Lift to use in my retirement home near North Myrtle Beach, SC. The two car garage has a 10' ceiling height. The pull down stairway is quite steep and narrow; thus, making use of the large amount of attic storage space not too practical for "safe" storage of Christmas decorations and other seldom used items needed around the home. There was plenty of space between the truss members to install the 250 lb. version.
I called Versa Lift to confirm I was ordering the correct model and was given very professional and courteous information. I placed the order and it was delivered in about a week as promised. It also fit into my SUV for easy transport from my home in Charlotte to the house in SC. As a engineer and handyman, I had originally planned to install it myself. However, with the high 90 degree temperatures and humidity my wife convinced me to have it installed.
Ron's Team, Windowz, Inc., of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, already doing renovations for us. They are enclosing and existing porch with glass to make additional heated/cooled living space, adding a retractable awning, etc. It turned out that Ron is very familiar with the Versa Lift and his Team has installed a number of them. They were able to come on one of the few days recently when it was raining and install the unit in about 5 hours. It works great.
Ron and I are having further discussion about insulation of the attic space, since the garage attic is not insulated and installation of attic flooring panels to complete the storage area.
I also ordered and received the attic stair safety rail.
The design and quality of the Versa Lift appears to be excellent. As an engineer, I look for high quality at a good price. The warranty, which hopefully is not needed, is great too.
Thanks Versa Lift to contributing to "safe" storage for our retirement home and thanks to Windowz, Inc. for their professional installation.
My husband has just installed a Versa Lift 24W and we absolutely love it. The most arduous part in the entire project was lifting the floor boards up off the attic floor. There were hundreds of nail brads that had to be removed. The wiring was re-routed, joist needed cutting and framing. Versa Lift provided all the instructions on re-framing. It was time consuming, but very self explanatory, even for a novice. The motor weighs 90 lbs, so I would recommend a little help carry this up a ladder. All in all, it took my husband five days to complete. I do have to say that he did remove all the flooring in our small attic space, move a light fixture and build more shelving and added flooring. So, you made shave off a day.
My one major disappointment with the Versa Lift company is that they did not not provide flashing for the entire opening, just the corners? For the cost of the product, a few pieces of flashing would be nice. It would finish the opening to look professional instead of half done. This will incur more expense where there should not have been. Otherwise, we are pleased with our Versa Lift and would highly recommend it just to save one from having to lug those cumbersome boxes up the not so safe pull down attic ladder.
Bought the Model 32 for 11-14 foot ceiling. Received all the parts, etc needed with the ceiling cover received damaged (most probably by UPS). No problem. Called Customer Service and they sent a new one directly. When all parts came in I got to working on putting the upstairs and downstairs pieces together. No issues. Then, I got a contractor friend to put the whole in the ceiling, making sure that the framing was done correctly. We then lifted the head assembly and made all the adjustments to secure it and assure it lifted without obstruction. All in all, the install went smoothly, taking about 6 hours or so. See pictures attached.
Like everyone else, the Versa Lift has been an answer to our prayers ! No more climbing ladders and struggling to move things into the attic. We have probably 20 Tupperware containers that we have been moving down and up into to the attic for years during Christmas. I have dreaded it !!! This year, after installing the Versa Lift....Christmas was a breeze! The Versa Lift has made our lives so much easier! Installation was a breeze. Now all my neighbors want one too!
This is a wonderful product, well engineered and produced.Once shipped ,it arrived in 3 days.Assembly is very easy, following the well illustrated manual.I had previously framed my attic floor for the installation,so installation only took about 6 hours at a leisurely pace.Operation is very smooth.I am looking forward to a much easier time of retrieving and storing all of our holiday decorations. No more carrying heavy boxes up the attic ladder. Thanks Versalift!
