A Good Who-Why-What Dunnit Book
on December 30, 2013
The beginning of this book is rather stunning and captivating. An unidentified young woman goes to a questionable part of town to deliver some documents. Who is the woman, what are the documents and to whom is she delivering them? What's going on? Unfortunately the delivery doesn't go as planned and the woman is brutally murdered.
Enter DS (Detective Sergeant) Brian McDone of the Preston Police Department. McDone has lots of personal problems that make it difficult for him to relate to the colleagues in his department including his boss and his partner Cassy. There are lots of suspects and twists and turns that keep you wondering what exactly has and will take place. McDone tries to deal with his significant problems, his uncertain relationship with Cassy and solve the crime at the same time.
It's interesting to me to read British (I think it was British) mysteries because of the differences between how things work in the United States. I found myself caring for the characters in the book and looking forward to the final answers. I recommend this book to anyone. One warning, however. Without giving away the ending of the book, it did make me rather sad; I wish it had ended differently.
