Old school tech, new school look
August 13, 2016
In my particular application (zoned, circulated hot-water baseboard with no central air) we just wanted a simple, no nonsense thermostat for the main living area. After spending a ton of money remodeling that area, we were looking for something a bit more modern and contemporary looking than a basic Honeywell boilerplate model. In terms of looks, this thermostat fit the bill. Installation was a snap, and the included instructions were pretty easy for me (a basic DIY'er) to handle. The back screws into the wall (with INCLUDED drywall anchors) and the front snaps on neatly. Once installed, the look of the thermostat is very cool ,very modern and I am completely satisfied. The numbers are easy to read and the switches are laid out well and work easily. It does what it's supposed to do - you turn on the heat and set a temp and it tells the boiler/furnace/HVAC what to do. No programming zones, no programming times, no programming this schedule or that schedule. Turn it on and set the temp. Done.
Some people have a legitimate need for programmable thermostats. Not me. And those new Nest ones that talk to you, brush your teeth and wash your car for you are pretty neat. But in my house, I want old school tech with a new school look - and the Orbit Clear Comfort thermostat delivers that. Very happy with the purchase.
