I had a very lengthy gripe/review about my experience with the Littermaid litter box, posted the same day as this review. The problem here is the size of the replacement waste receptacles. After using the four that came with the unit, I found that the replacements -- the 18-ct refill for $20 -- were not molded precisely to fit into the space and still allow for the lip of the receptacle to be forced below the lip of the edge of the litter box, so that the litter waste being collected by the scooping mechanism doesn't fall between the gap and onto your floor. I've resorted to duct taping over the gap, but I'm in the market for a different auto-cleaning litter box system. I'd love to hear form the manufacturer.

This waste receptacle is a poor fit. After using the 4 that came with my litter maid, none of the new replacements seem to fit. The first set we bought (different seller) were already misfit so I did some research and made sure the part numbers matched and were compatible. However when we finally decided to use the new receptacles, they were worse than the old ones we already use up! These ones are too tall and leave a gap where litter and other waste can fall through.

While littermaid seemed like a great idea, but the fact that every waste receptacle doesn't fit, it's really not worth the effort...

I purchased these because I had difficulty finding them locally, as I have been doing for about 10 years. Initially they may hit a new user of the auto litter boxes as a bit pricey, but, these can last you for a very long time. I usually don't even use the liners, I just pop the box out, dump it in a trash bag, tie it up and throw it out. Even if the containers do retain some scent, the auto litter box with these containers still do not smell nearly as much as a cheapo box does!

I can typically get several uses out of each bin by dumping them out, then replacing. 18 bins will last me a good year to year and a half.

As others stated, these refills do not fit the litter box as well as the ones that came with it. The first one I used was warped and had a gap between the litter part of my lm980 and the receptacle so that all kinds of waste went through. I even line each receptacle with plastic shopping bags to save money, and they were not enough to fill the gap. Thankfully, I keep the box inside a giant storage tote without a lid, so I don't have to worry about cat waste staining the floor. It is sad that these are name brand and they don't do the job. Thankfully, I only paid $16.99 for 18 and not the $19.99 they are listed for now.

If I did not have a cat with cerebellar hypoplasia who even has troubles getting into this box, I would buy this high capacity disposal system for the lm980 and never use a receptacle again:

These refills don't fit as well as the original waste containers and do not come with the carbon air filter like the starter ones that came with the litter box. When I put these in, they have a tendency to arch on the leading edge letting a lot of litter fall on the floor.

The one good thing is that they are made of a little more rigid plastic which makes replacing them a whole lot easier.

These DO NOT fit well in the LM 980. They are much flimsier than the ones that originally came with the unit. What's more, the replacement carbon filters (LitterMaid Odor Absorbing Litter Box Carbon Filters, 12 pack) DO NOT fit inside these lids. So instead of scooping, I'm spending that same 5 minutes cleaning up spilled litter and trying to coax these things into their slots. These are all products marketed by the same company. I expected better from an established company, and frankly, from Amazon. These things aren't inexpensive, but they are cheap. I was going to just buy and use these containers, but now I'm looking at finding alternatives that don't cause more problems than they solve.

Update: The manufacturer contacted me after this review and offered to replace the boxes. I told them I'd love to have the kind that fit my machine (LM980) if they've solved the problem, and I never heard back from them. I cc'd Amazon customer care. They were very responsive and sent a replacement right away. Unfortunately, the replacements had the same issues as the first, so there's still no solution to the problem.

My advice is to skip this brand (box and all) and keep looking for a better system. Anyone have any ideas?

These receptacles offer poor value for the money, and are constructed of very cheap, flimsy plastic.

Necessary for LitterMaid self-cleaning litter boxes.

Cheap & flimsy plastic.
Do not fit tightly.
Too small.
Do not keep out odor.
Poor customer support.

If you have a LitterMaid self-cleaning litter box; you'll have little choice but to purchase these. They function reasonably well at collecting cat waste, but are poorly designed. The problem is that they're made of very flimsy plastic and the design makes it impossible to get a tight fit when placing them in the LitterMaid box. The charcoal filter does virtually nothing to eliminate odors, and with the lack of a tight fit, the odors are very noticeable. In addition; this company has poor customer support.

My grandma has a "littermaid" she's had 2 and I put them both together and I also have changed the boxes before, I have a natures miracle (the single cat machine)- the store that we bought her littermaid from now only has "natures miracle" automatic boxes and refill waste boxes and the nature's miracle ones fit in her litter maid, it was easier (and potentially cheaper) for me to just order these off of amazon and have them shipped than go to the store to buy them and hope they were on sale normally I buy them if they are on sale when I buy cat food. They fit just fine and seem to be the same except these are a semi-transparent white color, where natures miracle is black would order these from Amazon again. I replace about once a week with one cat.

I have an automatic kitty littler box that matches these trays. I like the whole system as it makes it easy to clean up after my 17 pound Maine Coon. I gave this a 4 star rating because the plastic is of a thinner variety. Because of this, when we go to clean the box the tray's edges will often bend/flex and some its contents will fall out. Even though its easy enough to clean up when this happens, the point of the containers are to not have to do this. All in all, we will continue to buy this product because it fits into out machine, and works, but if we find a variety that's of thicker plastic we will most likely switch to those.

These are the brand-name replacement boxes for the Littermaid automatic system. They are a different, sturdier type of plastic than the boxes included with the litter system. This is good, as they are holding up for reuse much better then the originals. I particularly like the lid. The original box lids were very flimsy and kept falling out of the litter box cover, creating quite a mess. The only problem with these boxes is that they are marginally taller than the originals; this means I have to struggle to fit the box into place. Once in place, there isn't a problem.
