Amazing story of a combat medic before, during and after the war. The authors brutal honesty of war and it's aftereffects are enlightening to say the least. The bad... It starts out a little slow but this freshman author was still able to hold my interest. The great... I found his tale of life after combat and his struggle to readjust to be the most interesting. It was nice to here about a vet with PTSD who was able to overcome the demons of war. Too often; we hear about the "crazy vet" that loses it and ends up in jail. I'm here to tell you that the majority of the vets with PTSD end up as productive members of society. I guess that isn't as newsworthy as a person who is able to overcome adversity and readjust to a new normal. READ THIS BOOK!
The author is remarkably honest throughout the book and one comes away with the feeling that Americans are shamefully neglectful of their veterans. Having said that, this book really brings home the fact that soldiers at the sharp-end are never given any insight into the "big picture" and do their duty and protect each other with scant information. Highly recommended!
Pretty damn powerful! Movies make war like it's just something to do and than you move on with your life. It's crazy how a couple of years can define and effect the ones after them. This book gave an in depth look at what our soldiers have and will go through and I applaud the author for being so transparent with his emotions. I loved every word in this book. I would and will recommend it to everyone.
This book is hard to put down. Its a true story of a combat medic who served in the Iraq war. The story has some heart warming and heart wrenching parts. There were several times I was in tears. I want to thank the author for painting such a vivid picture of his experience. My fiancé served two tours in Iraq and this experience shed a lot of insight into what he has gone through as well. Thank you for sharing your story with is and most importantly, thank you for your service!
Awesome book! I loved how in depth this author got when talking about PTSD and how he personally experienced it. I also like how engaging the book was too and how each chapter held something new and it always kept me wanting to read more. I work as an EMT and highly recommend this book to those that are EMTs or Paramedics.
