“Wanna Stay, Wanna Go “starts as College grad comes to big city, meets Prince Charming headed to Happy Ever After......before everything turns upside down. I was on pins & needles as I turned the pages hoping Maria will see the man she loves for his true self. Would he talk her into returning. I couldn’t put the book down. Every woman ISO Mr. Right should read this book.
This book is a must read. It is well written in detailing what happens in an abusive relationship. My heart raced as I read each chapter, waiting to read what happened next. This book should be read by our daughters and all the women we care about. It helps to identify the characteristics of an abuser. It also gives hope to those who feel trapped in an abusive relationship.
This is a story of love, hope, choices, jealousy and abuse. It is a cautionary tale about Mark and Maria, a very real one. The book is a page turner. The book seeks to give us a better understanding of physical and mental abuse. I found myself pulling for both Mark and Maria, but for different reasons. The book serves as a reminder that too many women are victims of abuse.
I kept reading, hoping for change. It's hard to understand women staying at the introduction of abuse, but Marie's openness sheds light on the complexity and fragility of intimate domestic relationships.
This book should motivate anyone in an abusive relationship to get out as soon as possible. It shows that you can't change people, only yourself and your responses. And surely love is not enough to stop abusers. This book was so sad, especially since Maria had given so much of herself and walked away from great opportunities in order to make her marriage work. I'm still puzzled and infuriated by the pastor who told her to get married. I hated that Maria suffered so much before realizing she had to save herself, but glad she got the victory in the end. Thanks for sharing your story, Mrs. Scott - I especially loved the testimonial service and all that you did and couldn't share at that time. God has truly poured out a blessing on you.
I was introduced to this Memoir on Wednesday evening. I then purchased it and began to read it that night. Once I started, I could hardly put it down.So much so, that I was finished by Sunday afternoon. It was an amazing unveiling of a true personal relationship full of 'love and hate!' The sharing of Maria's journey is one with many paradoxes. There was weakness but yet strength; lies but yet truths; fear but yet courage; brokenness but yet healing; sadness but yet joy; discontentment but yet contentment; trapped but yet freed; despair but yet hopeful; helplessness but yet helpful. "Wanna Go, Wanna Stay" is one of the most power-packed, informative, easy-to-read, heartfelt, memoirs that I have ever read! I must say "Thank You" Maria for sharing your journey in evolving from a 'victimized woman" to a "VICTORIOUS HEROINE!"
Wonderful and insightful; a must read for anyone who might be feeling alone and lost....you can get on the other side of abuse. Men and women who abuse....read this book with compassion and empathy....you too can get on the other side of abuse. Praying for us all!
This book is well written and gives reasons why a person might stay in an abusive relationship. It's a short but engrossing read. I couldn't put it down until I finished it. The questions at the end are thought provoking.
