MEET ME IN BAREFOOT BAY is a collection of two beachy romance reads that is great for anyone looking to get double the books in one. The two books are complimentary, but they have their own style, making each unique. I overall enjoyed both of them in their own ways, and I would recommend this collection for fans of RaeAnne Thayne, Susan Mallery, and Kristan Higgins.
BAREFOOT IN THE SAND features Lacey, a single mother, whose story begins with a hurricane that she and her daughter are lucky to survive. Their house is completely destroyed. Looking on the brightside, Lacey takes the opportunity to rebuild the house as a B&B - if she can find the right architect. When a much younger and hotter guy shows up than she was expecting, Clay must convince her that he is right for the job. When he does and they begin working together, they won't need to look far for reasons as to why they should be something more.
I really enjoyed the main story, as well as the other drama that kept the plot moving quickly. Building the B&B is only part of the challenge, with the small-town island putting up its own obstacles. Additionally, the mix-up with Clay is due to competition with his architect father, and I appreciated this plot line as well as how it is resolved. This was a rewarding read with a lot of hope and looking towards a brighter future. The couple is really perfect for each other too, and I enjoyed the ride.
BAREFOOT IN THE RAIN features Jocelyn, a young woman running from a Hollywood scandal. Growing up, she had an abusive father, who took her away from the boy she loved. Now, she is returning to town to find her father without his memories and a different personality and the boy she used to love as a man she can't help but be attracted to.
I was engaged by the couple and their romance- especially with the second-chance elements. I did have some trouble with her father and his transformation. The domestic abuse was hard to read. Jocelyn's own path to healing was rewarding, and I appreciated her growth and finding love again. The couple was definitely an easy one to cheer for, and I was happy that they got a second chance.
Overall, this is a great beachy romance combination book that I would recommend for people who enjoy small-town settings, diverse plots, and engaging drama. Please note that I received a review copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
