HUSH, PUPPY is a standalone read with a happy ever after. It is part of a series but you will not be lost if you have not read any of the other books. But, you will have missed a good series. The story is set in Bitter Bark, N. C. on the family grounds. It is the largest dog rescue and training facility in the country. This big family is getting larger and larger as the kids marry and then Daniel, the Dogfather marries and brings in another large Greek family. The characters are all larger than life, each getting their own book. NO copy cats, (no pun intended), all their stories are very different and I swear each one gets better than the last one. This story is fun, light of heart, sad, anxious, etc. It just has everything. The heroine is a war widow with a 6 year old daughter. John is a bachelor that owns and operates the family restaurant. He seems too busy for relationships. The 6 year old is a great character. Smart beyond her years she has a speech problem so it has held her back a little bit. She compensates and that is her saving grace. She is a great character.
The story begins with John walking his new pup, Maverick in the park. He gets loose and takes off only to be rescued by a small girl child who sweeps him up and declares that she loves him. She does not want to give him up but her very wise mother explains that the dog belongs to someone else and she cannot just claim it. Even tho she has this speech problem her mother is very good with her in helping her overcome it. She doesn't give in to her at every turn just because she has this problem.
John approaches the two women and he is instantly smitten. He promises to be in the park tomorrow at the same time with the pup in hopes that the mother will show up with the daughter and he will get to see them again. He has no idea of their story. It is a long and detailed one and I won't go into it because it would be too much information at this point.
These are the two that the two matchmaking grannies plan to match!! They always add a lot of fun to these stories. This is one of the best series on the market today. Great story, great characters, a few lessons in events happening today, a great love story. You just can't go wrong. There is a little bit of sex going on but not too graphic. No colorful language. Great read and I highly recommend it.
I was not paid for this review. I am not a writer nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 6/13/2020
