Dread builds in this wonderfully creepy tale of a woman’s visit back to her childhood home.

Well a sense of dread built as I was reading this story but once I came to the words “Silver Canyon National Wildlife Refuge” I had a sudden, sharp intake of breath and my insides lurched. Those of you who have read any one of the 3 full length Bane County novels know why. If this short story is your first excursion into Bane County, you have gotten a taste of what’s in store for you in the novels. In this story we experience not only dread and fright, guilt and regret, but a bit of subtle humor here and there, too. This author brings the reader into the presence of both beauty and creepiness, danger and more danger, and leaves the reader wanting to spend more time in Bane County. But only on the printed page.
