If you are a fan, as I am, of Ashley Farley's books, you will notice this book is a little different than her others. From the first few paragraphs I was totally hooked and as I got further into the book absolutely loved the element of suspense. This is about Maggie, an investigative reporter, and a newlywed who moves across the country with her new husband. It's about Eva, a wife and mother who struggles with addition and it's about Reese, a teenage girl who simply disappears for ten years. The lives of these very different women are so cleverly woven together and the circumstances they experience are both sometimes scary and other times heartwarming. Maggie makes an almost unbelievable discovery that her new husband isn't at all the man she thought he was. Eva's addictive behavior drives her family away, including her daughter, Reese who after one semester of college disappears. Clara and Raimi come into the picture and play an important role in reminding us what it means to be family. This book is a page-turner and will probably keep you up too late, but in the end, it will fill your heart.
LIFE ON LOAN is rich in relationships, reinventions and romance. Author Ashley Farley’s latest novel will engage you right away with an enticing storyline, an invitation into her characters’ lives and leave you begging for a sequel! Two friends from college happen to see each other in the Atlanta airport. As they quickly catch up on each other’s lives over the last 30 years, they discover one major point of commonality - they are both running away! Sounds funny for two women in their mid-50’s doesn’t it? Or maybe not! Each has reached a crisis point in her life. They decide swap homes for 30 days to get a different perspective on their lives. What they discover is who they are - women with certain undeniable talents that have long been buried. Farley’s writing style shows why she is fast becoming a major voice in Women’s Contemporary Fiction.
When I preordered the book, I knew it would be good but this book is so far beyond good. This book is jammed packed full of excitement. As I started reading the book I kept thinking I really wish I could read faster because this is such a fast-paced book. Many times I said, Ashley, Ashley, Ashley how do you come up with some of these. As I finished the book, I thought this book was like a jigsaw puzzle. You get pieces and a few times I wondered about the pieces but the pieces start fitting together and when the book was finished just like a jigsaw puzzle, the pieces all came together and it was a masterpiece. I really wish I could show you what it is really like to read this book but it seems I can't. I hope you read this book and experience it for yourself. Thank you, Ashley, for writing another phenomenal book that got my pulse racing because it is winter here now and like a bear I hibernate so this was exhilarating. Remember how you read a book and years and years later you still remember the book like you read it yesterday. This is going to be one of those books.
This was another excellent read by Ms. Farley. She has a way of creating characters that you really care about them. However, I have a hard time accepting a daughter allowing her mother the mental agony of not knowing what happened to her daughter for ten years. I understand the bad relationship between mother and daughter, but allowing her mother to go through the death of her husband and a missing daughter was cruel. This is still a great read, as are all of Ms. Carey's books that I have read.
I loved this book! I bought it and read it back in November and although I always leave a review, for some reason I couldn't find it?? Ashley Farley really gets to the emotions and motivations of her characters, you feel as though you're going through whatever they are going through and you can understand their feelings and why they react as they do in various situations. She is definitely one of my very favorite authors!
Another fabulous book by Ashley Farley. Great characters & a great story line. And I loved that the book is set partly in Richmond - fun to read about places I go to &/or drive by so often. The women in this book (like her other books) are so strong & support each other. Definitely recommend this as one to read!
