Camera’s software contains TROJANS!

Camera’s App: Mediocre to poor
Camera’s PC software: FAIL DUE TO MALWARE
Overall: DO NOT BUY!!!
It takes good quality pictures and video and has good night vision. The IR LED is quite bright so if you are planning on using this as a security cam in a dark room, think again. It basically works as described though there is a lag between what’s happening and what you see on your phone. It’s a minor and generally ignorable problem. But the camera is utterly USELESS without either the phone app or pc/mac software so let’s move on to those.
It doesn’t ask for any permissions, even downloaded Google Play Store. Odd, considering it uses the microphone and wifi. So I suspect the app has malware of some sort but don’t know how to scan for it. Beyond that, it’s glitchy to say the least, very slow to respond and stops working, needing to be closed and reopened often. It also makes my Android phone run slow. But it does function.
Because the screen on phones is so small, to get details like facial features of an intruder it is best to view the cloud recordings on your PC. You can NOT view the SD card recordings on your PC by putting the SD card in the PC, a big problem in my view. So to view the cloud recordings you install the PC software. It installed OK, but then my computer’s wallpaper disappeared. Gulp. That was not a good sign.
My computer came close to locking up, wouldn’t connect to the internet and I couldn’t uninstall the software. I ran Windows Defender and it found a number of TROJANS. After removing them things ran a little better, as in I could at least remove the software, but it was still not running well. So I tried to restore the system to a prior date, an easy fix I had hoped would take care of the rest of the problems. But the software had removed all my restore points. Not good at all. I ran System Mechanic and some things started working again. But other problems still were happening, like Chrome tabs turned to black text on black background which I fixed by changing the color scheme, but that simply should not have happened.
After I installed Malwarebytes paid edition (the wifi was working by then) which includes real time monitoring (I used to run the free one which does not include real time monitoring), up popped a warning that my computer was trying to communicate using a Trojan to IP 188.8.131.52 which looking it up belongs to the Beijing Qihu Technology Company so there is still a Trojan and perhaps something else lurking. I’m not sure why the anti-malware programs didn’t remove it, which makes me think the problem goes even deeper and needs a pro’s attention. It will cost $$$ but it’s important to practice safe computing.
Other oddball items the software caused
When I insert an SD card (one having nothing to do with the camera) my PC does not automatically detect it. This has never happened before.
The logon screen to enter Windows password used to be blue. Now it’s white.
Using alt-tab the computer tabs only through programs which are running, never the home screen, so to open a program I either have to use the Start button or minimize all open windows.
There’s likely more it did, I haven’t checked out the USB port for instance, but it’s late and I’m not going to run the computer through all its paces.
I haven’t had any malware on any PC I own in over 10 years and hadn't installed anything new in months. So the problems were clearly a result of the camera’s malware ridden software. The camera should be removed from the Amazon site.
