I loved the fact that this story was based on real life events! And in true Hallmark fashion, even though the main character, Heather, had stage 4 liver failure and needed a transplant , she never looked or acted like she was sick. Except at the very beginning when she decided to see a doctor, she never acted like she didn’t feel well. She was crafting, shopping, making cookies, decorating , dining out right up until the day of transplant surgery. And her rapid recovery from such a serious surgery was nothing short of a miracle.....which is maybe why they gave it the title A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE !!! I Know it’s a Hallmark movie where everything is ultimately feel good stuff, but for me, the portrayal was SO UNREALISTIC, it detracted from it being believable. I kept thinking,” oh yeah, right, she’s be- boppin’ around the room a few days after a liver transplant without even a hint of being in recovery mode. Either not so good acting, or not so good directing. Otherwise the story line was a beautiful one.
I buy Hallmark Christmas movies. Often interesting events, relationships, dialogue. BUT this one is HISTORY not fiction. They often have romance that leads to marriage, BUT at the end of this movie you see the ACTUAL couple who live the marriage. In many movies coincidences hint of the involvement of a Santa or some Christmas spirit. This movie has interactions of the couple which I assume are FACTUAL coincidences. The timing & number of them has you thinking perhaps Someone is involved. If you don't need a tissue box, you may need to check for a heartbeat. I cannot imagine you will be disappointed. The character, family relationships, interpersonal dialogue makes you want to imitate these people. BUY IT. P.S.- I DID NOT get a free copy for a review!
Heather is a young woman in her early twenties who comes from a family near Chicago who loves Christmas, and her family has 5 Christmas Traditions. As the season approaches, Heather starts not feeling well and stays tired. Her Mother goes with her to see a doctor, and receives bad news, Without a kidney transplant, Heather isn't expected to live, and to get on the list and receive a kidney before her time is done, is a long shot. The family (The Krugers) do all they can to advertise about the plight of their daughter and sister, but things don't look Good. Enter Chris. Chris is a nice young man who just went to work for Heather's Uncle's tree farm. Chris wants to do something meaningful in life, and without telling the whole story, He gets tested to see if he is a match, which he is, and meets Heather to tell her he wants to give her one of his Kidneys. Heather is over whelmed and has a hard time understanding why a perfect stranger is willing to give her a kidney, but of course she accepts. During this whole process, they fall in love and the story has many places where happiness abounds. Chris has the true spirit of Christmas giving. There are many many great stories out there about Christmas, but to me this is the best. I'm not a cryer, but I dare you to watch this whole story and not cry a bit. Now you ask me why this is the best ? Because it is a true story, told with a high detail of accuracy. In the end they even show us a picture of the real Heather and Chris. And Yes they did fall truly in love and are now Husband and Wife.
From the moment I saw this movie last Christmas on Hallmark, I knew I had to get it for my collection. It hits home for me. I’ve had 2 kidney transplants. It’s just miraculous & a True story too. If I could give this movie 10+ stars, I would!
i bought this for myself and decided to purchase a few more copies of this movie to give away as Christmas gifts. Just buy it - you will love it! A timeless story that will melt your heart! The main actors in this movie have such great chemistry! Such a sweet movie based on a True Story of - one self-sacrificing young man that helps a young woman out in her dire time of critical need. Heart-warming and romantic! This will be one of my favorites to watch each year! Great job Hallmark!
I am sure there was plenty of artistic license in the movie from real life but it did start with hearing from a co-worker about Heather's need for a liver and soon! This happened in 2015 for the real Heather and Chris Dempsey. The excellent dialog and acting by the entire cast - parents and friends/family - make this a perfect holiday movie. We enjoyed it very much.
I purchased this movie for myself. This movie shows how people and this world should be. There was caring for one another, support, giving an amazing gift to one in need for their life and love. What a wonderful world this would be, if we saw much more of that!!! It would be a beautiful world. Kinddness
I didn't realize that this was a "real life" story line. This was a nice new story line from Hallmark. Usually it's .. boy and girl fall for each other after hating each other at first. Nice to have a new story line, and the best part, it's from a real life event.
A recently returned Marine is willing to give the greatest gift, of himself, (risking giving part of his liver), without expectation of receiving anything in return, so that a wonderful girl, whom he ,initially, had never met could survive. Of course the Hallmark format weaves this true story, evolving, romance, into every ones desired outcome. An excellent true story exemplifying the true spirit of Christmas. Highly recommended.
I like this movie, in part, cause it has basis of True Events! The season of Helping Your Fellow Man, hits on the Spirit of Christmas!! There are individuals who do this very thing every day of the year!! It is sad that these people very rarely get their Do Credit in actuality!! This is differently a Feel Good Movie for the whole family!!!
