OK, Mixed bag of issues.. New tech or defective unit?
Reviewed in the United States on October 5, 2019
I did a rebuild recently even though I didn't really need to. I wanted a larger OS drive so I ditched my stable Samsung 970 Pro 512gb for the 1tb Rocket Gen4. I just did an 3900X MSI X570 Meg Ace build and figured if I am doing to upgrade I might as well get a Gen 4.
I had nothing but issues. I could not get the system even remotely stable. I am using windows 1809 build. I had already read about the buggy 1903 build. I reloaded the system 3 times and got constant lock ups and black screens. I tried different drivers and different order of loading drivers. Nothing seemed to work. I have been building PC's since the late 90s and was using pond pumps back then for liquid cooling. I am by no means new to this and currently run 4 data centers.
This could be an issue with MSI and bad support... It could be a defective drive. It could be early tech that just isn't truly ready for prime time. Seeing so many good reviews makes me think I got a defective drive and I hope that is what it is. I can say the Samsung Evo Plus 1tb I used in its place has been a very smooth process and honestly feels faster. Dont get sucked into synthetic benches. I went back and read some real world results and there is just not enough difference to justify going to this tech yet. Peak read and write does not equal a better or faster drive.
