I enjoyed the first book in this series, and was happy to see the second one delved into the life of Lori, who seemed pretty interesting. She is! I grew up in a small town, so it's fun to see that the author has captured the flavor of small town living...and romantic entanglements.
What I genuinely like about contemporary romance is when it’s about the drama of adults acting like adults. Lori has a good job, friends, and a full life before Jake crosses her path. Jake has a good job, friends, family, and a full life before Lori crosses his path. They have to mutually decide whether or not they want to make room for the other person. Being in a relationship requires effort. Too many romance writers skip creating well-developed characters and focus on outlandish scenarios that force people together.
