I received this FANTASTIC jump starter almost free from seller DBPOWER in exchange for writing a review. All my cars are in great condition, so I picked my oldest car to do the test. I turned the headlamps on to run down the battery but discovered this car automaticaly turns them off after 10 minutes or so. Next I removed the fuel pump relay and cranked the engine for a few times then let the starter cool and repeated the cycle for three more times. The battery just kept on cranking. I decided this was going to be too hard on my car so I decided to find an old dead battery and put it in the car. I found a Honda battery from 1986. One cell was dry, all were a little low, so I topped it off with distilled water. The voltage then read 3.3 Volts. I disconnected my positive cable and used jumper cables to connect dead battery to my car. At all times, the positive terminal was not connected to anything. I connected the DBPOWER unit as instructed and cranked the engine....it kept on cranking til I turned off the key. That's another thing I found out about my car. It keeps cranking after you let go of the key until the engine starts! At this point I remembered to replace the fuel pump relay. I recycled the DBPOWER unit and the car started right up. It ran funny because the computer was without power for a while. I disconnected the DBPOWER and the engine died, but I think the computer shut it off due to very dead battery. Based on the extreme conditions of this test, I can recommend this product 100%. Since this unit is so small, I plan to pack it on my motorcycle. Update: I got called out to jump my daughter's car. After starting her car I loaned her the Jump Starter and she used it about 3 or 4 more times. Easy to use. Light weight.
This is the second DBPower jump starter I have purchased. The first one was an 18000mAh I use for my larger Chevy Silverado Duramax diesel truck. It has worked great each time.
Since this was for my flex fuel Chevy Avalanche gas truck, I went with the DBPower 10000mAh jump starter as it was a bit less expensive. I have posted a short video of it connected and starting the truck. It had no trouble getting going. Since they are so compact and easy to transport, I take one on our boat when on the water. We had to jump start another boat that had a dead battery.
I’ve also posted pics of both units. As you can see, the 10000mAh is just a bit smaller, making it easier to store in smaller trucks and cars. The other thing I like about this unit is its USB charging. I installed a 12v power port in the back of the Avalanche that is connected to key power. So I can leave the jump starter plugged in all the time, it charges and tops off when I’m driving, but doesn’t run down the truck battery when turned off. The larger unit comes with a 110v wall charger. I haven’t noticed any significant drop in stored power when they are not plugged in, so leaving them charging isn’t really necessary. The one not plugged in still has a full charge.
Both units come with their own storage case, so despite Amazon’s “Frequently bought together” suggestion of a case, you don’t need to purchase one. As shown in the pics, the case is great quality with a large zipper and padded storage for the jump starter; there is also extra storage for the jumper cable adaptor and other accessories you can get.
They both offer USB ports that can charge electronic devices. We also use them to run small USB lights and fans when dry camping. They both lasted all weekend. Just for fun I used the 18000mAh jump starter USB port to recharge the 10000mAh jump starter. It was able to almost fully recharge it.
Both are very sturdy and heavy built. Not cheap plastic. The ports are all tight and work well holding anything plugged in. They also have power indicators showing charge. The smaller unit has LED lights, the larger one has an LCD display. I wish the jumper cable port on the 10000mAh unit was as easy to open as the 18000mAh. It is a little tighter. I don’t have long fingernails, so I used the tip of a key. It might get easier as it is used more.
I highly recommend the 12v power port accessory, (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019IFHLAE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). This plugs directly into the jumper cable port on the jump starter boxes and makes this very handy for camping and boating. We have used it to run air pumps to inflate floats and camping air mattresses.
I think the only issue I have, and this appears indicative of other brands and units as well, is the short cables on the jumper cable adaptors. They are just barely long enough to get to both battery posts, and if the battery is a tight fit, it can be a bit frustrating. I generally follow the procedure of connected the positive to the battery and the negative to a ground point like a body or engine bolt, but sometimes those aren’t close either. Again, it appears that other brands are similar in design.
Overall I am extremely satisfied with how both of these have worked and what I’ve been able to use them for. I see a few more being purchased for my other cars, the boat and as gifts for the kids. I’d prefer they have this option over asking a stranger or having to wait for AAA to arrive.
Full disclosure; I was reimbursed a percentage of the cost for the 10000mAh unit in exchange for testing and posting my comments. But I had already purchased the 18000mAh unit on my own, which is how I ended up on their product test list. Take that as you will.
When I have other opportunities to jump start, and/or find other handy uses for them, I will try to remember to update.
It seems fantastic. It's totally enclosed tight in the case, includes very clear instructions, warnings repeated in multiple places so even if you don't have instructions you will know how to prevent damage (don't crank for more than 3 seconds, wait 1 minute between attempts for it to cool down). It feels very durable, with a thin rubber ish coating that gives a good grip also its temperature range is wide enough (-4 to 140f) to feel safe leaving it in the car in winter and summer.
Got to use it, we have a snowmobile that wouldn't start after being on a charger. The cables on the battery showed that it had 11.30 volts (so awesome it can do that!) plugged in the starter pack, volts measured 15.4,started right up! 1000cc engine.
I took a little bit before writing this review to ensure that the battery would be sufficient. I had a portable jump starter in the past (not DBPOWER) that just never held a charge so I wanted to test it out. Suffice it to say, the battery is still good after 10 days.
The features are nice with the ON/OFF switch. I had trouble using the flashlight because I didn't realize there was a switch. Nice to have in case the flashlight accidentally gets turned on and drains the battery.
I like that this one came with a carry case! I like the added tech specs in the case.
I haven't needed to use it yet to jump start anything, but I feel confident that it'll work when I need it.
awesome charger!!. can be used to piwer your devices and also to jump start tour car when battery dies. very usefull. i have 2 of these now and keep one in each car. used it for a friends car with no problem. also had left over juice for another jump if needed.
also has a flashlight if needed at night time to see what your doing. cant go wrong for the price and can save you alot of headache. a must have in every car.
I've had a few different brands of jump starters over the years, and they have saved me a few times (not to mention family and coworkers). This one seems as well made as any I've owned: The body of the battery solid, the clamps are robust (metal with plastic shielding), and the wires have 10AWG printed on them. I confirmed that it fast-charged my (Android) phone.
It has two power buttons that must be engaged in order to charge; I assume as an additional safety. The only issue I had was getting the little rubber bumper out of the car charge port (I have stubby fingernails), but then I realized if you press on the opposite side, the side that opens up pops right open.
Good for me that I have not had a chance to use this yet to start a car (kinda the most important aspect), but if that is successful then this will be proven 5 stars, and I'll try to come back and update the review.
I had used another DBPower jump starter for my wife's car in the past and found it very easy to use. This one is a bit smaller but is also well built and durable. The jump starter is very easy to use and is much more convenient than carrying long jumper cables, and then finding another car to jump with. I also like the carrying case that is included. I also like that it has a USB-C connection, which is compatible with newer phone cables. I recommend this jump starter.
The Car Jumper came ready out of the box. The Flashlight has SOS mode as well. The display in the clamps plug is very helpful, it will help you see the actual voltage on the car battery to jump. Also has other diagnostic warnings alerts and will play a tone to notify you to fix the error. No more adapters! Thank you! We all have enough adapter already. It is a good design choice to use a USB C for the input voltage, the trend now is to use USB C in most of the electronics. I recommend this jumper starter!
Very good product. I have a car that was sitting for the past 6-7 months. I have AAA and I even have jumper cables but heard of these portable jump starters and it’s convenience of use for jumping batteries but also for charging portable items (cell phones, tablets, etc). I used it on that sitting car and it worked! As advertised. Legit. Too bad the alternator is out (or some electrical connection bc car dies). So ultimately I had to call AAA anyhow. The guy comes on a flatbed. Which is good except of where my car was located. So I bring out my DB Power thing and he says that works? I showed him. Got the car out enough to load on the flatbed. So there you go it was nice to prove the tow truck guy wrong. The only suggestion I have would maybe be a gauge readout of percentage left in the battery. But the four indicator lights work fine assuming it means a 25% increment. But again I’m a satisfied customer overall.
I was quite impressed with this item. Upon opening you can tell the great quality. It does not feel cheap at all and worth the cost. I had to try it out, because in case of an emergency this can get you out of a pinch. I tried it on a dead battery Honda and it started right up. Quite honestly I didn't expect it, but it worked out great. This is an awesome value especially how compact this it!
