UPDATED: I'm lowering my rating from 4 to 3 stars after using the product for a few weeks. Not because there is any issue with the product itself, but because I just don't think the iPhone is suited for it. Specifically, as I called out in my original review, it reduces the brightness of the screen about 20% when it is installed, but I've also found that the presence of the tinted protector fools the ambient light sensor on the iPhone, making it think that the ambient light is much lower than it is. This results in the screen brightness setting being lowered significantly on the phone, making it even harder to see (e.g. the phone thinks you're viewing in a darkened room when in fact it is fairly bright in the room. The combination of the phone automatically lowering the screen brightness when the screen is woken up and the tinting of the protector blocking out 20% of the screen's light can make the screen difficult to read. As a result, I've found myself having to manually raise the brightness setting of the screen quite often when I wake up the phone, which I've never had to do before. Because of the hassle factor of this, I've gone back to a clear protector and forsaken any privacy benefits I would have gotten from having this one installed. All of that said, if you really want to secure your screen from prying eyes, this could still be worth it for you.
I needed a new screen protector (my old one had done its job and taken one for the team). I got this because I'm sometimes on my phone in public places and figured the added privacy features, obscuring the view at an angle, might be valuable.
Overall, I would give this a 3.5 if I could - it's not quite a 4, but it's better than a 3. As a screen protector, it's great - comes with everything you need to make a professional installation, including the snap-on guide that guarantees perfect placement. The fact that you get three for such a low price makes it a bargain.
As for the privacy feature, it kind of works. I've included some pictures that show it from various angles, both prior to installation and on the phone. It's a polarized glass surface, so if you've ever tried to look at your iPhone through a pair of polarized sunglasses, you'll get how it works. When viewing from an angle at either side, the screen will either appear darker or, if it is an extreme angle (> 60 degrees), it will appear pretty much dark. However, if you view from the top or bottom at any angle, there is a negligible affect on the view.
The other consideration is that if you are viewing the screen straight on (as in, whenever you're using the phone), the screen is dimmed about 20% from what it would be if the protector was not installed. So, you'll either need to adjust the brightness on your screen to compensate (& use more battery), or get used to a slightly darker screen.
Overall, it's pretty good and if you need some privacy while using your phone you may find this helpful. Personally, I'll probably just go back to a crystal clear protector next time and cup my hand around my phone when I need a little more privacy...
