From someone NOT paid to do a review

Don't bother. I use a Canon EOS Rebel t5 for video shooting and bought this for better sound and 1) I had to go back and purchase a different cable because this one is 3.5mm to 3.5mm. My camera needs a 2.5 to 3.5mm. Okay fine, no big deal. 2) I plug it in and now all of a sudden my camera won't record. I take it out and camera records fine. I plug it back in while camera is recording and it makes my auto focus completely stop. Wtf? I take it out and auto focus is back. I cannot for the life of me figure out why this has made my camera freak out when it's plugged in but it's going back asap.

Deadcat is useless. It's missing the foam insert needed to make it much more effective than it is. on the bottom of the shock mount, there is a standard 1/4" threading to mount easily on almost any camera accessory. includes a cable to connect to a cell phone. The attached video has more details.

Pragmatic in CT

Works better than the built-in microphone in my phone

I frequently record video clips/talks with my phone and, sometimes, the environment is either too noisy or has much reverberation. Also, the subject may be at a certain distance from the camera, which requires more sensitivity without picking much of the ambient noise.
This microphone has helped, even though I have not had a chance to test it outside yet and see how well it deals with wind and car noise.
Has it been a huge improvement? no, but it helped.
The drawbacks I have found with it relate to the mount:
1. It cannot be rotated, which would help in terms of directionality
2. The mount itself seems flimsy, I handle it with a lot of care, in fear that it may break. I remove the whole assembly off the camera/phone bracket without dismounting the microphone to reduce the stress to it.
Other than that, it's a reasonable value for the money.

Great value at an affordable price

I purchased this microphone because I was looking for a budget alternative to enhance the audio quality of my mobile setup and this was a great choice.

The package comes with the microphone, a couple or adapters almost ready to use and a reusable pleather pouch. In my case I had to get additional adapters for my iPhone and DJI Osmo Pocket camera.

In terms of material quality, it is significantly better than I expected. The coldshoe mount looks fragile, though. After recording a few sample videos with and without the mic, I did notice a significant improvement in the audio quality and it sounds great.

I would definitely recommend this as a starter microphone especially if you’re looking to record with less background noise.

The moukey mcm-1 is comparable to the rode version. Don’t look to this mic for an amazing shotgun pattern or extended reach. It’s very good at capturing the immediate area and brings a much better audio output experience to your videos than built in mics offer by isolating that area directly in front of the mic. The included dead cat is a nice touch, it works better than a foam windscreen but may get in the way depending on your camera of choice. Overall it’s a good value for the price tag for those looking to step up their audio on a budget.

Shockingly good for the money!

This is a shockingly-decent sounding microphone for the money. I regularly use Sennheiser shotgun and wireless lav mics when I’m filming, and they work great. BUT I wanted to out together an inexpensive “hot mic” as they’re called. By combining a small mic like this one, with a wireless transmitter and a small cheese plate...now you’ve got a small and quickly deployed method of capturing MUCH better audio during chaotic ENG, documentary style shoots.

I’ve been really impressed by the audio quality, especially for such a cheap price!

This is the first microphone of this type I've owned, so I'm no expert. It sounds ok, seems to be a little tinny sounding at times though. The included accessories are nice and I like how it attaches to the cold foot on my camera rig securely.

I've used it with Android and iPhone and also a Nikon camera and it worked well for all those applications. On the Android phone I had to use Open Camera since the default camera app was not configurable to recognize a microphone.

I know it’s not brand name such as RODE, DEITY or even Sennheiser. But you still get quality for it’s price.

The only thing that was kinda nit picky IMO was the dead cat and foam cover; the dead cat can NOT be on its own because it is bigger than the mic itself, you will need to fit the foam inside the dead cat and then put it on as ONE piece onto the mic. I tried multiple ways to just have the dead cat but does NOT work. Still works though if you have both, and it does NOT decrease volume input. Most camera’s can adjust volume input within the camera so keep that in mind.

Sound quality was surprising, it actually picked up quite a distance (roughly 2-6 feet maximum with regular talking voice) with crisp and clear sound. Note: if you have shaky hands, the cord that plugs in the mic to the camera might bounce around and can be heard in the video but a hand-held Tripod will do you a favor. Talking behind it and in front still gave that “professional” sound/audio.

This is an excellent microphone for the price. It includes both types of cables that you may need to plug into a phone, computer, or camera.
When I plugged this into my android phone, the sound immediately improved. It does not, however, have the full sound cancellation of a good shotgun mic. I still pick up some sounds from behind and the sides, but it is definitely an improvement to my phone's microphone.
The mount is sturdy and the packaging is strong. I have not used the dead cat to record, but it does fit well on the mic.
I highly recommend this if you're on a low budget, if you're just starting out with video recording, if you need a cheaper backup in your arsenal, or if you plan on filming in an area where you don't want to take your best equipment.

Pros:
- good quality, materials
- captures good quality voice within 3-5"
- good value
- storage bag

Cons:
- plastic shock mount is delicate and can break easily
- does not capture sound very well beyond 6"
- sub par sound quality for live instrumental music, especially strings

Overall good quality and value. Would recommend for voice but not for musical instruments.
