I originally had the old version of this product and I loved it. I purchased this version because it was smaller and it said it was improved. From day one, the collar would come loose on my dog's neck and fall off. Also, I plugged it in to charge overnight and it blew up, setting off the fire alarm in my home. We had called the fire department before we finally found where the burning smell was coming from.
The first one of these we bought nearly two years ago rated 5 stars. The battery in the collar receiver finally died unable to hold a charge any longer. Ordered another one and received an “improved” version. Lasted only about two weeks before it failed. Returned for replacement and the replacement lasted barely a week. I suspect the improved version is from a different manufacturer than the original version that worked so well for so long. Now looking for an alternatibe
I would not recommend first of all because it turns it self off after so many hours of non use so u don’t know when it’s off or on. Also battery only lasted about 12 hrs the first time we used it after the recommended 2 hour charge time. Last reason we wouldn’t recommend is poor customer service. We contacted amazon and they gave us the link to the companies support after 4 days we have not heard one works via email or phone. We have had a previous dog trainer collar and the company was great actually had a number we could call and talk to a person not this place. We got this collar because of the good reviews! I guess we got a bad one and a bad customer support person. Don’t buy this collar there r others out there that r hopefully better! The only good thing about it is the remote control has had a full charge for 5 days but well if the collar is never on because it shuts down all by itself it’s useless!
Great while it lasted...which was just over two months. It’s supposed to be 100% waterproof, so I took it with to the beach. It worked fine even after my dog went in the water, but it stopped working shortly after that day trip. The light on the receiver won’t come on anymore no matter how long I let it charge. None of the remote commands have any effect on the receiver. I don’t know if it had anything to do with the water at the beach or if the receivers typically only last two months.
It’s a shame because I loved that the receiver didn’t have screw-in contact prongs like the last brand I used. The screw-in prongs were always loosening up and falling out in the grass. I had to buy numerous replacement prongs to make sure I had them on hand when one inevitably got lost. However, at least that collar lasted almost three years.
Our lab knows to behave when this collar goes on. We didn’t use the shock option, just the vibrate and at first it worked. But she got used to it. We raised the intensity and even at a high level, she didn’t really seem to feel it. This is DEFINITELY NOT waterproof. She went swimming with it on and after, it completely died.
Just a heads up on this product. If you don’t use it within a few hours, it will turn off. I got this believe it was going to be on the whole time. When I needed to use it it was off and just a nightmare. I live by the freeway and when my dog sees the gate open she runs out. She’s a husky, just fyi, so she runs quick. I was told that she ran out and I was on my way home from work. I tried getting home as quickly as possible. When I did, I got the control and it didn’t do anything. I freaked out because this time she ran in the freeway, yes I was running right after her. Lucky she turned back around before getting any further out. She was running towards the cars no with the cars directions. It took me 4 hours to finally get her. I honestly thought I was going to lose her that day. I believed this product was going to help. But it was a waste of money. Don’t get me wrong when it’s on everything worked but within 2 months it collar ripped. At the end it wasn’t a reliable collar for me.
Go with the bigger remote and the one that does not put the collar in "sleep" mode due to inactivity. It would not respond top the remote when we needed it to. We would have to manage to get my 1.5 year old Doberman back to the house to reset the collar so we could use the beep/vibrate/ shock feature. Yes, I am one of this cruel dog owners who uses the shock feature (when absolutely necessary). Like when my 90 Lbs Doberman is chasing and nipping at my kids riding their bikes/quads. Call me what you will, but I believe having an out of control 90 Lbs Doberman is more of a liability than giving him a little shock when absolutely necessary. I test the shock collar on my arm so I know how high I should adjust the shock to. He responds just fine at level 40. I don't think I have ever taken it higher than that. Least restrictive means possible (as the courts would say). Tell me, what good is a corrective collar if it is not active when a correction is needed? I bought the first model (bigger one) because the collar never goes to sleep and the vibration feature works much better. I can usually get over 1 week on one charge of the remote and collar. Just charge it overnight if you are worried about your dog not having it on during the day.
There was a lot of good reviews on this product so I thought I give it a try. I wish I can return it. Unfortunately I passed the time to return it because I have been out of town. I tried this on my 2 German Shepards and on my terrier mix but did not really help much. It is very hard to hear the beep. Wish it was louder and with the amount of hair my Shepard’s have, they do not feel the vibration mode. I did not use the shock mode because I do not want to on my dogs. I got it for the beep and vibration mode which did not work on my dogs. Also the collar is very week and even when I put it on the tightest, it get loose with their movement.
I like the easy of adjustments, fit, ability to control 3 collars. It seemed perfect. 5 star almost. Then, walking the dogs wit the remote around my neck on a very hot day, 15 minute stroll, I sweat alot but, wow, the remote obviously is not made to get within feet of moisture. Regardless of position the remote red locked. Couldn't read channel, display, intensity, etc... assuming locked(showed) and on channel 3(no 3rd collar) I preceded to check the buttons. Well, it was on channel one in the # 3 position and shocked the ever living you know out of my 1.5 year old Deaf red heeler. She had her setting on 5. Just enough to get her attention. And it did. This however made her jump and Yelp in PAIN. something I so dearly wanted to avoid with her being deaf. So, if you get it, be very, very, very aware!!! I'll be contacting the company tomorrow. Hopefully by the end of the week I can coach my little girl to even come off the porch.
