Amazon.com: Customer reviews: Mini Wireless Camera Action cop Cam - Cameras for Indoor or Outdoor Surveillance, Home Office or Car Video Recorder with 1080p HD Recording and Night Vision - 1 Cubic Inch by i-Mate
This is a really small camera, but the results are outstanding. We have used it both outdoors with plenty of light and indoors in low light situations -- equally as good video. Sound is also quite good.
There are two small issues with this camera: the extreme wide-angle lens gives typical distortion at the edges (to be expected) and the instruction sheet is almost undecipherable. If it was translated from the original Chinese by computer, it would be better than it is. As it stands now, I still have not been able to figure out the sequence of button-pushes that gives me motion-detection activation, but I have managed to get it to work several times.
For the price and size, this is really quite a good camera. I have not yet tried out the night vision capability, mostly because I haven't been able to decipher that part of the instructions: "Infrared lamp open closed: Open: boot any standby mode, press and hold the ON/ON 2 seconds under the red light flash 2 infrared night vision amp open, can see video." If I can figure that out, I'll post the results.
I give this camera a solid B- grade. I wanted to set it up so that when power was applied it would start recording. The camera does this but it defaults to 720p. WHY WOULD YOUR DO THIS? The camera is capable of 1080p so if power is applied it should default to the best quality. This means if you want to use it in your car to hook up to ACC power you only get 720p unless you pull it off the mount and mess with the buttons. I wish it would default to 1080p or at least default to what ever the last recording mode chosen was. The picture is a solid “B” but I’ve seen much better but for the price the picture is fine. Night vision is a FAIL all because the camera isn’t smart enough to turn on the infrared lights when it gets dark. In my opinion night vision is useless unless it automates the switch over from normal to night without messing with the buttons. The button controls are really cumbersome and difficult to be sure the camera is doing what you want until you review the footage. Lastly - the power plug is NOT STANDARD. It’s a plug primarily used for really old Nikon cameras. PLEASE REDESIGN to have one of two current standard USB ports (micro or mini).
Bottom line - it’s ok, the size is great and the picture is good but there are sooo many things that could be improved with minor software changes and standardizing on USB.
One more thing - the little stand is PERFECTION! It can be used as a lapel clamp and is very unobtrusive if mounted.
This camera is excellent for the price. The only drawback is it records in 5 minute increments, so if you have it record constantly for period of time, you have to keep viewing a new 5 minute segment to watch the entire recording. Plus, if you do not have a high performance micro sd card, it will on record 3 to 4 five minute segments and then rewrite over the segments with new ones. So buy the recommend sd card!! I found this out the hard way and had to contact tech support. Other than that, night vision is clear enough to see details, and if a light switches on, it automatically switches off the night vision. Video recorded in the light is fantastic,
AMAZING !!! Hi-Def excellent color, great sound, nifty features like night vision and motion detection. All in a tiny package with a tiny price. You just provide the micro-SD memory card; I suggest formatting it first to eliminate any conflicts. ALSO: be sure to charge the camera up first ... so you can MOBILE !!!! Only one caution; low power means slow processor = wait a second after you press a key to give it a chance to respond. The manual is hard to read, just start using it and you'll get it. SHOUT OUT: i-Mate has great customer service and support; a GREAT SELLER !!!!
