To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.
Some might think that I was living in the dark ages using my X10 home automation services. I refused to turn to web-enabled devices because "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". When the heart of my system began to no longer control some of my modules, I spent time looking to replace it with a different controller. Then I saw the Echo devices on sale and an option to purchase a smart plug for only $10 more, I decided it was time to move from the stone age to the 21st century. I am so happy with this change and now have a very easy-to-manage smart home system. But that is only the beginning of what Alexa and the Echo units can do. I now have Alexa play my thunderstorm white noise at night replacing my CD player. I no longer need to be in the car or drag out my computer to stream Sirius-XM. Alexa does that for me. The only negative thing I have to report is about my waiting so long to take this step. Once you have your own Echo, Alexa will be there to do your bidding.
We’ve been waiting to go “full smart home”. This is the hub of our home now. There are a lot of things that we love and several we dislike.
Likes: VERY EAST SETUP! Look good and sounds great. The library of music is impressive. The integration with other devices is fantastic. We have outlets, echos, vacuums, cameras, cubes and fire sticks. All work great together. No issues.
Dislikes: Alexa gets confused quite often. The devices need to be far enough apart or they get confused with each other when you’re talking to them and doing multiple things like TV cube looking through movies and echo doing music. Alexa also does a terrible job with learning the rest of the family. It wants you to have multiple accounts and like those accounts. Just adding names and profiles on one account is confusing and tedious.
The only reason to get this one over the cheaper, standard Echo Dot is the quality of the speaker. I find it acceptable for my bedroom, it sits on a night stand about 30" from my head and I ask her to play music often. The sound is clean.
Everything works great as advertised! It is easy to set this up and get the smart home going! Alexa can hear me from pretty loud environments and is able to adjust lights and plugs that I integrated with ease. The speaker is great, rivaling my other normal speakers in terms of quality. A great component to the smart home indeed!
