2.0 out of 5 starsHate This Case
June 22, 2019
OK, 'hate' is a strong word.
But I really dislike this case, and it's only been about two days of using it with my new Fire 7 (2019). I got the case about a week prior to the tablet, and when I took the case out and was fiddling around with it, I didn't see how this case was going to work to stand up on its own, but I had faith that it would work out. After all, this case was sold by amazon specifically FOR this brand new tablet, and costs twice as much as all the other rando tablet cases out there that you can buy.
The PROS are that the color matches perfectly, as you'd expect, given that this case is the 'official' case sold by amazon for this brand new Fire tablet release. The tablet pops into it easily and fits snugly (again, as you would expect). It doesn't add much more bulk to the tablet itself. It has a magnetic flap that auto wakes/sleeps, as most cases on the market do these .
As far as protection, not sure. Certainly better than nothing, and with the flap closed, you could knock it around in your purse or bag without worrying about the screen getting scratched. If I dropped it on the floor, would this case help prevent it from cracking? Not sure on that one.
But otherwise, the reason I hate it is because it just really doesn't stand up worth a darn. And that's basically what I wanted. (Well... half of what I wanted, I also wanted the screen to be protected from scratches in my purse, so this case DOES accomplish that). There's no little "catch" on the reverse side of the case, if you know what I mean, to hold the "stand" part of the case in place. You have to fiddle endlessly with it to get it to stand, and then worry that the pressure of your finger turning pages or playing a game, will push it over.
Right now, I tried to stand it up on the smooth wood of my computer desk, and the back flap just slides and slides, until BONK the tablet is flat on the desk. No standing up. On fabric, you'd have better luck because of the friction, but still not the best.
One of the selling points they list for this case is the ability to also stand portrait wise. I find more or less the same concerns, which is that if you fiddle with it you can get it to stand, but if you breathe too hard or look at it cross-wise, it will fall over.
So now I'm going to go buy some random case from someone, for half the price, I can probably find one in a cute design, and it will have the little 'catch' to hold the flap in place so it is sturdy, and I'll be happy. I should send this one back, but I already threw the package away. Save half the cost of this case and go buy something that's better engineered.
