Not Really Horror
February 23, 2019
This is a two-book purchase. I read the first book, “They Came with the Snow,” and I stopped there. I was expecting a horror story, a creature feature. What I got was a military sci-fi, apocalyptic thriller.
Yes, there are creatures. Big props to Coleman for his original, bizarre, white-furred, snow beings (the “crabs”), but they are not the real antagonist.
Coleman’s prose flows. It’s easy to read, but I prefer a denser style.
The main character, Dominic, isn’t likable (he’s a womanizer and bossy). I didn’t feel sorry for him, either, so it was hard to root for him.
Those readers who like apocalyptic thrillers or military thrillers would no doubt love this story. It just wasn’t my cup of tea.
