I live in South Carolina and am very familiar with Charleston. While I'm sure there are very bad people and awful incidents that occur in this city on a regular basis, I found this story a bit hard to picture the enormity of these events taking place. The story just never seemed to gel with me. Perhaps it would have helped had I read the previous novels about this character.
The story is full of interesting characters within plot twists and turns. I was surprised by several of the plot twists. I didn't see them coming. Charleston is a beautiful city filled with traditions, superstitions and often a hidden sometimes checkered past. Russ Johnson taps into all of this producing a wonderful murder mystery in a rich setting. I read and enjoyed the escapades of Detectives Pete Nazarelli and Tara Gimble. A fun read. Enjoy.
This one had me on the edge of my chair from start to finish, much like the rest of RH Johnson's books. I am already wondering what detectives Pete and Tara will be up against next. Johnson once again "hit it out of the park."
After reading all of author Johnson's Pete Nazareth novels, if I were on the Chamber of Commerce for a city, I would ban Nazareth and his wife from visiting. As soon as they even plan their trip, bodies start piling up all over town. In this book Johnson has achieved new levels of creativity in killing off good guys and bad guys alike. Lots of fun along the way. Highly recommended read.
