It's 2018 and I just bought an FM transmitter. Really!?!

Actually, I can't believe I waited so long. It got delivered about an hour ago and I had it setup in about 5min.

Bought this for a few reasons:
- My new iPhone doesn't have a headphone jack and I don't want to buy a stupid Apple dongle so I can charge and listen.
- My 08 Toyota Highlander's Bluetooth only works for phone calls. Thanks for that Toyota, brilliant!
- A new CarPlay receiver would be great, but that's a lot more $$.
- Since this FM transmitter also USB ports, I can kill two birds with one stone.

*Pros:*
- Affordable
- Easy setup
- Sound quality is GREAT!
- Two in one device, USB charger and Bluetooth FM transmitter
- Also has an AUX plug on it if you don't want to use FM
- Takes a second, but pauses my iPhone's audio when I shut off the car

Like I said, set it up in 5min and music sounded GREAT! Did notice slightly better quality/volume using the AUX cable. Wasn't bad at all, but I'll have to give it more listening time to really see if it's significant. In both cases, there was no static at all. I really wasn't expecting it to work this well, but I was so impressed I needed to post a review.

*Cons:*
- Takes a second to pause my iPhone's audio when I shut off the car
- Voice prompt on startup that tells you Bluetooth connected

Didn't get 5* for 2 minor things. One, it has a voice announcement on startup that the bluetooth has connected, which to me is cheesy and annoying. I'd prefer a tone or the ability to disable it. Two, although it does pause the audio on my iPhone, it's a little delayed. Again, two minor things but something certainly worth improving if possible.

I'll try to update this review ASAP because I haven't used it for phone calls or charging yet. Overall, would absolutely recommend buying.

Great Value and Sound, but....

Received this for my 2009 Sonata that does not have bluetooth. Setup was quick and easy. Sound quality GREAT and had no complaints from anyone on the other end of the line, they heard me loud and clear. BUT, using this set off my TPMS warning light on the dashboard! Initially thought, great something to take to the mechanic to fix! But reading up on TPMS warning light, in an effort to fix myself, read about how radio frequency are used to transmit data to the car to alert if there is an issue..hmmm, i thought. Removed the FM transmitter Roav from the cigarette lighter and voila! TPMS light went off a couple minutes later. Placed the Roav back in and about 15 minutes later, TPMS warning light back on. Removed and light gone again. Read on to find out that this is an issue with some car chargers/fm transmitters.

Edit: Anker customer service (CS) read my review and the wonderful customer service agent Vanessa sent me a replacement Roav F2 (a step up), but unfortunately the same thing happened as described above. I contacted Anker, which promptly sent me another replacement F2, to verify that the problem indeed is reproducible. Again the TPMS light goes on and off depending on if the transmitter is plugged in and active. Contacted CS and Vanessa promptly refunded my purchase price with no problem and was promised this would be looked into. CS is great to work with and works above and beyond to make their customers happy! Keep up the great work!

UPDATE:
While the original unit I received didn’t work well, Anker lived up to and exceeded my expectations.

They immediately contacted me and offered a refund without the need of an Amazon return. I had already sent it back. Regardless, they offered to send another unit at no cost.

I have been traveling and have not been able to set up the new unit, but Anker’s outstanding customer service and response to me deserves an updated rating.

Again, Anker makes excellent products and their customer service is equal.

Great solution for adding Bluetooth to older cars

I was very excited to see this product offered by Anker but after using it, I am not very impressed. There is background "White Noise" regardless of the FM frequency slot chosen. I have tried open slots across the FM dial and the background White Noise is constant. The music quality is awesome and the phone call quality is good. Because of the location of my 12V ( cigarette lighter) socket , it is awkward to use the multifunction button to make or receive pone calls but that is not a function of the Anker device but instead the poor location of the 12V outlet.

Contacted Anker Support and received excellent service. They provided me with helpful tips on setting up the item and after trying several unused FM frequency slots, I finally found one where the background noise was GREATLY reduced. Anker Support swapped out the item and now I am very happy with the performance of the ROAV Bluetooth-FM adapter. While there is a very low level of background noise, the unit is functional and I am happy. Thanks to Anker Support.
If you are looking for a solution to add Bluetooth hands-free phone calls and music to your older vehicle, do not hesitate to buy this Anker ROAV unit.

In summary, unlike highly reputable F2, this F0 may have some design issues in electromagnetic shielding, but just go ahead and give it a try. Even if the one you ordered has issues, Anker/Roav's excellent customer support will be with you to solve the problem.

Update 2: Roav sent me a new F2 as a replacement for the problematic F0. I tested it on the same two cars again and confirmed it worked this time as expected. Having tested an F0 (originally ordered) and an F2 (replacement), I'm now sure that my F0 was actually faulty. Some other reviews in amazon (.com and in other countries) report on similar issues, too. F0 is likely to have some design issues in electromagnetic shielding at least in a few initial lots.

However, the good news is that Raov still lives up to Anker's excellent reputation in customer support. If the one you got looks faulty, just contact Roav. The initial response may look mechanical but there still is a human manager behind. She/he will properly handle your issues.

I'm a long time customer of Anker. I have trusted its product quality for years but Roav seems to be a completely different company.

I returned it because it generates too much noise, making the FM radio useless. Once plugged in, the noise dominates over approximately plus/minus 10 MHz of the transmitter frequency irrespective of what MHz you set. I confirmed the issue on two cars.

I contacted Roav with a detailed report but the reply was mechanical. I stopped wasting my time and decided to take advantage of Amazon's excellent return policy. Thanks Amazon and good bye Roav.

Bought this for a 2002 Toyota Avalon, which has a Radio, CD Player, and Tape deck. I've been using cassette to 3.5mm AUX for the longest time. While nothing beats direct 3.5mm to Stereo, I had thought that cassette was the next best option...until the cassette player starts to die. Little did I know that there was an alternative, a FM Transmitter. And without doing the hardware to install a line in module for the car, told myself, 'what do I have to lose' and with Anker's outstanding customer support team in their audio electronics department (Soundcore) it sweetened the deal.

After receiving the item, I was skeptical at how much more this could pump out vs the cassette. But soon realized that something was off. My music would distort (orchestral/soundtracks) when played with certain frequency ranges. Turns out I had to limit frequencies (Attached image; eliminate bass, increase subbass, limit mids, increase highs [for clarity]) in order to replicate a respectable sort of audio quality. Tried to troubleshoot other methods like using the 3.5mm AUX port, but even after trying that, realized the AUX port is faulty. And after a few quick emails, Anker Support exchanged the unit free of charge.

With the new one plugged in, I’m able to use it with no equalizer (both on my car and app). And while not as clear as a standard high powered radio station, very suitable for what the FCC allows.

Pros:
- Excellent Anker Customer Service, backed with a 1 year warranty from date of purchase
- Dual 2.4A Charging ports
- Auto-reconnect
- Easy to use

Cons:
- Microphone quality not the greatest, but can be heard
- Some other select (unknown) FM Transmitters can play over F0’s broadcast
--- Was in a drive-thru, the person behind had a transmitter too, when I was ordering, I heard death metal. Pulling up to the window, my soundtrack came back (person was ordering). Once person pulled forward, I heard death metal over the faint soundtrack. Pulled out of the drive thru, back to soundtrack.

**See original review below** **Update Feb. 2019** I decided to try a replacement unit to see if my first unit might have just been a "lemon". After well over a month of daily usage, the replacement unit has been ROCK SOLID! I now love this thing. Bluetooth connects super quickly and sound quality is excellent! Would give 5* if I hadn't originally been shipped a defective unit.

I bought this unit to replace a two year old Otium FM transmitter that I had really liked that finally quit due to wear & tear. I was excited for this newer unit because it was from Anker (whom I've had good luck with) and because it was more compact and nice looking. The bluetooth connects quickly and it sounds great for about 2 minutes and then becomes VERY noisy with static. The static is so bad I can barely hear what is playing. Once it does that nothing fixes it. I can change FM frequency, cycle the power on the unit, unplug and replug the unit, disconnect & reconnect the bluetooth, nothing works. I will be returning this item and looking for a better replacement.

Note: Really I think this is a three-star product, but i gave it an extra star because it's so inexpensive!

Like many others, i wanted to add bluetooth streaming and phone to an older vehicle, in my case a 2000 BMW Z3.

What's Hot::
- Simple, functional design.
- Connects bluetooth easily
- Good Sound quality
- Modern USB charging.

Whats Not:
- Stupid "connected" voice, not even a professional voice, clearly some dude on the development team recording his own voice. Completely amateur hour! We don;'t need a stupid voice at all, but if you insist, make it a professional voice!
- Ground prong design. Bad design for euro plugs... It will not work reliably in the bmw socket without being 'modified' with duct tape. Other style plugs (eg cable matters usb plugs) work perfectly in euro cars.
- No auto-off. My outlet is always hot. I can manually turn off the device with a long press of the phone button, but if I don't, the bluetooth will time out and flash "frequency" and "bt" forever. The other device I'm looking at is the Aukey B07F5H84HT, and intelligently that one will shut off after five minutes of bluetooth disconnect.

Overall, I'm torn as there are a few things I like better about this Anker device, but ultimately I think the Aukey is a ore intelligently designed product for my needs.

No disturbance in communication

I have used this product for about four months and it has worked well. The product serves two purpose, and in a package which looks good and almost inconspicuously.

A) Provides a Bluetooth connection to automobiles which came without inbuilt Bluetooth system. Normally, FM based Bluetooth add-on have a problem, they have too much of audio disturbances. This system surprisingly does a good job to suppress most of the disturbance. So, much so, you really do not feel that it is a FM based system. I have the system connect to phone almost immediately - cannot remember a single instance when it failed to connect - so once you have the system set-up, it works with little to no intervention.

Main confirmation of the quality of system is the fact that no party on the other end has ever mentioned that I am not audible. So, I speak normally and the mic of device which is about 2-3 feet away picks up the sound very well.

Also, the system is flexible with FM frequencies which can be used to sync with car audio system - this is digital and the frequency displays on the LED screen.

B) Provides two USB connectors to charge devices.

Drawback:

A) This drawback is with all FM based systems - you need to be tuned to a frequency on the radio to use the device. So, if you need to use the system for conversation, you need to switch from what you may be listening over to the device frequency.

However, this has not been a big issue for me as I wanted an easy to use cost effective system. Alternative would have been a system update costing hundreds of dollars. I have no issues with the system.

Good charging (not fast charging) w/ excellent sound

I have a Fast Charging wireless car charger and unfortunately this doesn't do fast charging with it nor does it do fast charging when my S9+ is plugged into it, BUT it is much faster than your average car charger and I'm extremely happy with the quality of the sound for music, news, and phone calls. I would easily buy this again.
While using my phone's GPS, streaming music, and on full brightness, my phone does very slowly loose power while this is using my wireless charger, but if it's plugged in directly it gives my phone enough juice to gain a charge w/ all that going on. If it was QuickCharge 3.0 I would give this 6 out of 5 stars.

Pros: For music, it sounds great. Easy to connect to. Controls were good and worked just fine.
Con: After being plugged in for about 30 mins, it tripped my Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) alert light in my SUV (2008 Ford Explorer) and my fiancee's SUV (2012 Nissan Xterra)

I did not use it to make calls so I can not comment on the phone capabilities.

Overall, it was great for what it is supposed to do but we encountered the unfortunate side-effect. It may work better for others with newer vehicles that have updated TPMS sensors. Good luck.
