The students and teachers at Womby’s always make me laugh! In this book, art teacher Clarissa wants to rescue her high school boyfriend Derrick. She believes he’s imprisoned by nemesis the Raven Queen. Clarissa’s mentor, Felix Thatch, promises to make a spell to bring Derrick back ... and sends her to collect some of the more hard-to-get ingredients, mostly emissions from various creatures: a dragon’s egg, a virgin’s tears, and ... uh ... something personal from a unicorn. She has to fend off romantic gestures from both the unicorn and an invisible security agent, while she pines for Derrick. Even cranky Thatch connects with her in a new, hot, apparently never-to-be-repeated way. All this while solving problems for her unruly students! I’ve read several books in this series, and they’re all creative, funny and steamy — full of witchy goodness! I received this book as a free ARC from ebooks discovery, and this is my voluntary, honest review.
Hexes and Exes is Book 5 in the Womby's School for Wayward Witches series. This is another awesome addition to the series. Clarissa is struggling to learn more witchy skills. This chapter in her life she wants to save Derrick, her high school love from the Raven Queen. On her trek to accumulate the needs spell ingredients, she meets some magical creatures (one a unicorn wants a virgin). We follow along with her on this journey. As always, Sarina draws you into the story so you can experience it along with Clarissa. You will miss a truly excellent experience if you do not read this series.
Freaking Fantastic! This is one of the best in the series so far! I laughed, I cried, I laughed more. Clarissa is either going to one day be the best witch ever or she is going to kill Felix trying, and I really don't know what would be better! I can't wait to find out if they end up actually being friends or enemies, and if Derrick comes though in the end as good guy. So many things yet to happen, plus the girls, I don't know what they are going to do, but she can't just let her students that won't do well loose out into a realm they won't survive in!!?!??
Once again, Clarissa struggles to learn magic, control her affinity, convince her fellow teachers she is not like her mother, find Derrick, and resolve her love life. Two sirens and a unicorn help to complicate her life. Being impetuous, she continues to act without thinking about all of the consequences.
The story continues to develop the main characters while painting great pictures of the main players in the story. The word pictures are well done in guiding the imagery in your mind.
I read this story out of order. Even knowing the ending or most of it, did not diminish the enjoyment or suspense of reading the story.
I didn't realize it was part of a series when I picked it up. That being said, I felt the author could have introduced what was happening from previous books, better. There was nothing in the actual book nor in its cover to say, "hey, this is book 5, read books 1-4 first". Overall, its a good book. I bet the series is a good one, I did enjoy it - but not as well as I should/could have.
The cover art made me assume the book will be on the duller side, but don't judge a book by its cover. The heroine isn't annoying, has depth, a great storyline, funny, romantic and althouggh I predicted the end, I still enjoyed the read start to finish. Could barely put the book down. Great writing!
I freaking love the unicorns. What I appreciate about this series is that it's not stale or cliche -- it's always fresh and unexpected. Another great book in the Womby's series that makes me look forward to more.
Wow I love stories of witches ant fantasy creatures. This story was great, a school for witches, the evil courts of fea and Raven Queen. A teacher who lies so much you just don't know if he is good or evil. You got a fan, Catha Watkins Reese
