This is the first time I’ve tried a Simply Perfection dog product--the lamb & brown rice recipe is a very pleasant surprise. It’s not advertised specifically for small dogs, but the pieces are very tiny. We have four dogs in varying sizes and ages, so it’s a rare occasion when I come across something that appeases them all. This dog food does that.
Before giving the dogs anything new, I taste it myself. The lamb flavor is very pronounced and pieces are a perfect chewing texture. Even our picky old-timer has no trouble, and she has few teeth and digestive issues. All four dogs eat their meals with gusto. Five stars for a dog food that appeals to a wide range of palates, ages and breeds.
The photo compares this food (on the right) with the size of peas and another brand labeled specifically for small dogs. As you can see, the Simply Perfection recipe has the smallest pieces of all three.
I have sampled a wide range of dog foods with my two dogs. Cody, our Yorkie, who will instantly, without questioning or sniffing, gobble anything I offer [and a few that I don't], and Daisy, our Border Collie who insists on first doing a sniff test, then a nibble test to determine if it might be appealing.
Naturally, Cody's endorsement is not to important. Rather, if he rejects it, THAT is notable. With Daisy, though, eagerly eating any treat or dish of food should be taken seriously.
So, what is the verdict?
Two Paws Up. Both dogs love it and immediately wag their tales and come begging when they hear the rustle of the bag.
So, slowly mixed this into my blue heeler's diet and she loves it, she has been eating this straight for nearly a week now, never hesitates an instant and just dives in. We have not noticed any difference in her how her system functions either, so she is all good there. The ingredients in this food are pretty clean and decent which I like, and it is priced comparably to the other brands we are used to feeding her, and I like that it is made in the USA. It doesn't matter either way what the kibble size is, liking this food as much as she does and being a medium sized dog she can and will eat any size kibble, but if you have a small dog that needs smaller kibble this will still work for you as the kibble is like nearly as small as cat food.
We aren't using this as a primary food for our lab, but as a treat thing in her little feeding ball. Our lab's normal food is too large to come out of the holes, but she loves that feeding ball and it keeps her entertained. This is definitely smaller kibble, which is wonderful, and it is pretty good in regards to ingredients. We normally don't do rice, but we went for this, and it is good - our sensitive lab is having no issues with it at all. It smells good, and she gets very excited when her ball comes out! Good to have a kibble that can serve to tire out her brain, and get her excited just like a treat would. we are happy with it!
This is a high quality food with good ingredients, and it's made in the USA. Lamb is not my dog's favorite food, but he seems to like this quite a bit. There is filler in it (like rice bran), but it still is nutritious, and even dogs need some fiber in their systems. The kibbles are fairly small, so good for different sized dogs. My only issue is that I would like some assurance on the package that no ingredients come from China, where problems in dog foods have existed.
It's hard to find anything our dogs don't think of as treats. Even giving them small pieces of their normal dry dog food they eat everyday as a treat for something outside of normal feeding times, they act as if we're giving them bacon.
They ate this without any hesitation. We like it better than many of the other foods out there, ingredients list not as bad as some.
What's more important, there is no negative side effects. Sometimes when we try a different food, the next morning we wake up and find a wet pile of something somewhere that we'd rather they had deposited outdoors. No such adverse reaction with this line of foods...
This product features quality ingredients such as lamb, rice, and peas. It comes in a small kibble size and various bag size options. I like the idea of being able to buy a 4 pound bag to test a product without committing to large dog bag. If my dog doesn't like it or it doesn't agree with her I am not stuck with lots of wasted food. My dog heartily eats this food and it has agreed with her tummy. Introduce new foods slowly if you are making a diet change to reduce the chance of stomach upset. This is a great product and my dog looks forward to having this for a meal!
We have a small dog who's pretty finicky regarding dry food. Of course, he wants to eat at table with us- pack mentality and where the good smells are. We don't allow it. He'll eat this as a second choice to table scraps- if an when he gets them.
Good ingredients: Lamb and brown rice. Everything always sounds like people food, I guess it motivates us to buy the product.. Smaller bits. Smells alright for dog food. I sometimes think the worse it fouls the air the more he loves it. Dogs. A bit pricey for bag size.
Simply Perfection's Lamb and Brown Rice dog food consists of small hard triangular kibbles. The kibble are dark brown in color and smell fresh. My Wheaton Terrier has been eating this food for a few days now and really enjoys it. It hasn't caused any issues with gas, diarrhea, constipation, or upset stomach.
This is the best Lamb and rice formula that I have tried for my pooch. In the past he kind of turn his nose up to this combination. Not this brand. He would eat all his recommended serving and not leave a crumb in his bowl. It has a good mixture of vegetables in it to it is completely grain free. It also did not give him gas.
I wish the bags were larger because my dog loves this. It’s probably doesn’t come in large portions because it’s natural and may go bad before we finish.
